The New York Times’ David Kirkpatrick filed a report today (4/29/11) on one apparent problem with the move towards democracy in Egypt–the country might pursue policies more in line with what the Egyptian public supports. The most important news here is that Egyptdoesn’t want to maintain a blockade on its border with Gaza. In the Times, this newsis filtered through the perspective of Israel– thusthe headline:
In Shift, Egypt Warms to Iran and Hamas, Israel’s Foes
And then there is this description of the crippling economic blockade that was enforced with the help of the Mubarak regime:
Israel had relied on Egypt’s help to police the border with Gaza, where arms and other contraband were smuggled to Hamas through tunnels.
The blockade was about far more than that:blocking access to food, medicine and construction material necessary to rebuild what Israel destroyed in the recent war. (See Extra!, “Gaza’s Ongoing Crisis Is Not News,” 8/10.)
The Israeli government would likepeople to think blockading Gaza is just about weapons and tunnelscontraband; the New York Times is doing its part to helpthat effort.

Isn’t it too bad how low the NYT has sunk. To think that the Times was the first paper to publish the Pentagon Papers! What a travesty! Now they are just apologists for the Israeli Nazies . The only thing missing in Israel’s treatmemt of the Palestinians , is the is the ovens!
Are you now going to accuse me of being Anti-Semitic? Well think for a minute; the Palestinians also are Semites!
It might also be worth pointing out that it is not clear why weapons should be considered “contraband” for Gaza any more than they should be considered contraband for Israel. The idea that the Palestinians should remain unarmed even as they face the armed-to-teeth Israelis is itself part of the implicit anti-Palestinian viewpoint.
I read this article at about 750 am this morning (29th April)…I read numerous quotes of Egyptian officials describing the blockade as immoral and of its being lifted in order to reflect popular Egyptian views of the matter. You would not know this reading this FAIR critique.
The real question will be if the millions of Americans, who were supportive of the revolution, will be sympathetic to the people’s aspirations or will they (we) be swayed by the coming State Dept./Pro-Israel Blitz Machine into denying Egypt’s revolution. And make no mistake- the US Blitz is coming, the Egyptian military still in power and Hilary/Obama/Netanyahu will be pulling a few strings to undermine the new dawn in Egypt. Full scale repression is going to raise it’s ugly head with US money.
Hip hip hooray for those Egyptians and assundry other Arabs who so love us so, and down with those hateful Israelis who are our worst enemies.
Remember the firestorm when i pointed out that on 911 the Israelis wept with us, as the Palestinians cheered and paraded.Everyone pointed out how wrong that statement was. Well here we go again. Anybody notice the cheering crowds in the middle east celebrating OBL’s death? No?Pretty somber from what I have seen.I was watching Al Jazeera….Interesting.We would think that this man who was a mass murderer of muslims as well as other peoples and a perverter of Islam would bring great happiness ,overwhelming emotion, crowds spilling into the streets filled with joy.Ah…yeah not so much.
P.s Israel seemed very happy
