That’s not my opinion—that’s what I learned reading the New York Times today (6/27/11). Jeremy Peters profiles the right-wing scam artist, telling readers (emphasis added):
Some of his reader-generated scoops have reverberated all the way to the halls of the United States Capitol, like the Weiner photos and undercover video he released of ACORN workers offering advice on how to evade taxes and conceal child prostitution. After the videos went viral Congress ended grants to ACORN, and federal agencies severed ties with the group.
That wasn’t the lesson of the ACORN videos at all. After a long battle, the Times admitted that much of its coverage of the Breitbart/James O’Keefe videos was misleading. The paper told readers that O’Keefe actually went into ACORN offices dressed in a ridiculous “pimp” get-up. He did not.
What the Times would not concede, though, was that the actual videos show very little in the way of tax evasion and prostitution advice. But that’s the story Breitbart and O’Keefe were pushing; watching the actual videos doesn’t provide much, if any, support for those claims. But they’re still being made in the New York Times—which might be Breitbart’s greatest triumph.
Peters goes on:
The stories and videos Mr. Breitbart plays up on his websites—which include Big Government, Big Journalism and Big Hollywood—tend to act as political Rorschach tests. If you agree with him, you think what he does is citizen journalism. If you don’t, his work is little more than crowd-sourced political sabotage that freely distorts the facts.
This is absurd.
If you think that Breitbart distorts the facts, that’s because HE DOES. To suggest otherwise is to assert that there’s no way to ever know the truth about anything. Is that the standard in “objective” journalism?

Breitbart’s a blot, all right …
A big, greasy stain on our body politic, smeared on it by the Times and its corpress co-conspirators in morally and rationally dumbing down the US public.
Guess this is an example of the moral relativism that conservative critics decry.
His proudest journalistic moment was giving us a peep at the Weiner pecker? Good on ya,Andy. My heart swelled as you bragged about breaking open schemeckelgate.
I disagree with Doug. I think of Breitbart more as a wet spot on the sheets of the body politic.
I disagree, Tom. A wet spot is the result of something positive. He doesn’t deserve the association.
Right, Brian. Breitbart, like the dickhead stenographer Jeremy Peters (is Peters really that dense? Jesus!), is more properly seen as a shit-stain on the underwear of the body politic. To properly extend the metaphor, we might say that the entire Right-wing enterprise is the case of foul, endless diarrhea that causes the stinkin’ shit-stain that is Breitbart.
I wish Breitbart would make us something real nasty about Israel. That would be the end of him in a hurry. Even those 5 slugs on the SCOTUS couldn’t save him.
with all these right wing bigot haters,’ jurkey turkey’ repulsive redneck repub religious wacko candidates running for the commander in chief job of the US..breitbart is the Ugly American’ bag man and snake salesman for these loosers, man am i’m glad i live on the east coast..it gets any worst than it is ,im on a ship and out of here!!
this guy Breitfart sounds like what he looks like..spooky”
DLISIAA: DOUG LATIMER IS STILL AN ASS! Some things change, but some things are still the same. Latimer never changes. He’ll be an ass forever!
Sign of the times gentleman. When one Breitbart goes down, or a wicki leaks takes a hit, 5 more will pop up. Everybody has a computer and a vid recorder.Motives are usually contemplated long after the horse is out of the barn. The advice my father gave me when i was a boy still rings true.”Don’t say or do anything that could bring shame on you or your family”.In todays lexicon we may say things like…..Dont push send!!!Point is an innocent man need not fear for his reputation.
Ive seen unedited versions of the Acorn tapes. Whatever may be said one thing was certain. Whatever the motives or standards of that sting operation- it did show the Acorn was loaded with scum.It was Kind of like Delorian blaming the cops for setting him up when he was caught with a case of coke(the up the nose kind). He was as guilty as sin .Or wickileaks.I think we are killing the messengers (which is OK)and cutting the real scum a break.
Jeremy Peters’ “stenographed” article [on the liberal witch hunter Andrew Breitbart] for the New York Times once again provides yet another example of the Great Myth of the ‘Liberal Media’…
I haven’t watched the unedited tapes, so i don’t know what the ACORN employees told Breitbart. I’m sure, though, that the entire set-up was staged for the purpose of hurting ACORN as an organization, because ACORN’s voter-registration drives increase the ranks of Democratic voters. And Breitbart achieved his goal — ACORN no longer exists. This result could only happen in a society corrupted by right-wing propaganda to the point where standards are asymmetrical. Do you think that if the employees of some corporation gave illegal advice — say, for example, that an H&R Block employee suggested tax evasion — that the entire corporation would be put out of business?
