Fox News host Bill O’Reilly claims he was accosted by a “screaming” man “armed with a cell phone camera” on December 7 while walking to a media party at the White House in Washington, D.C. On his show the next night (O’Reilly Factor, 12/8/11), O’Reilly explained,
I told the guy to get lost, but he came closer and closer, armed with a cell phone camera. When he was about a foot away, I turned to shield myself and my assistant with an umbrella. At this point, we were just a few feet away from the White House gate.
According to O’Reilly, at the White House gate he tried to get the Secret Service and the D.C. police to arrest the man, but was told by a police officer that according to the law, no assault had occurred. Claiming the police had also told him that his tormenter was a member of the Occupy Wall Street movement, the Fox News host concluded his commentary with an attack on OWS:
Ironically, a few nights ago, I told you bad things were going to happen because these occupy protesters are becoming increasingly aggressive. But I never thought it was going to happen to me. However, these anarchists are now everywhere.
The problem with O’Reilly’s account is–just about everything. As the videotape posted by interviewer Branden Lane shows, he was not screaming, he was much more than a foot away when O’Reilly opened his umbrella at him (apparently hitting his camera in the process), and did not appear threatening as he straightforwardly asked O’Reilly if he was returning from a fundraiser for Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.
One could argue that the man was less threatening and intrusive, and more professional, than the video teams O’Reilly sends to ambush subjects while they are at their homes or on vacation or when they are with their young children. In fact, O’Reilly’s producers have actually physically interfered with subjects on some of their ambush stakeouts.

I can just imagine if there were essentially reversed-roles involved – – – if Andrew Breitbart (sic) or some National Review reporter were doing the EXACT same thing to an Ed Schultz or Keith Olberman and THEY (Schultz/Olberman) acted the same way, O’Reilly would be on his show the next day breathlessly ranting about how anti-free press they are and how hypocritical they are and how totalitarian/communistic they are, etc, etc…
O’Reilly & the Faux Noise crew ultimately make me sad… a minor amount because of the lies/gross-exaggerations/bellicosity they engage in, but MUCH more because there’s apparently a semi-significant (which is of course grossly exaggerated by the Fox crew, but that’s to be expected from propagandistic liars) audience that actually laps that crap up in this day and age of modern technological communication. It’s really like a bratty kid acting-out in a public place where quiet is expected – – – but the parents think it’s cute, or they claim there’s nothing they can do about it and it’s ‘normal’. I end up being way more irritated at the ignorant parents than the bratty kid, which is the way I feel about the Fox AUDIENCE vs the ‘False Noise’ TV non-personalities like O’Reilly and friends.

Well Bill, Joseph Goebbells would be so proud of you and your fellow brownshirt dis informers at FOX. I’ve never seen such a clown who is so widely disliked take himself so seriously and be so full of hot air (with the possible exception of Donald Trump, and Rush Limbaugh). Bill, when you’re no longer on this planet, all you will be remembered for is your, “F*** it, I’ll do it live..” fit that you threw when you were on that joke of a show, “Inside Edition”. Of course, the “O’Reilly Factor” is far more absurd and tragic that that show ever was.
That’s right, Jack. O,Reilly certainly thinks very highly of himself, but honestly, I guarantee you that every once in a while (sometimes even during his show) he thinks to himself, “Gee whiz, maybe I’m really as dumb as I seem to know I am.” And that dummy is dreaming if he thinks the little incident his fevered mind invented (O’Reilly is always the real or intended victim in his mind) is as bad as it’s going to get. Sooner rather than later all the well-paid ass-kissers and boot-lickers of the oligarchy will need to stay indoors or be protected by a phalanx of armed, well-paid goons when they venture outside to listen to their masters (Gingrich, Romney, et. al.) tell them how wise they are.
I recall Molly Ivins’ description of B.O.’s method/technique of punditry, something to the effect that he browbeats. Factual information continues to remain inconsequential to his continuing browbeating ways. I find it difficult to understand how any adult finds his browbeating ways entertaining, let alone informative or convincing.
Two things I’ll never understand:
1) Where do fat-cat media execs find creeps like O’Reilly, Limbaugh and Beck? One never encounters such extreme nut jobs on the loose — constantly and incurably irate, babbling away with arms waving night and day. Do they canvass the mental institutions for compulsive ranters or what?
2) How can anyone possibly believe anything these pathetic jerks say?
There is evidence that recently some of the true believers, including significant numbers of Tea Party sheep, have been leaving the flock. All I can say is: hang in there, FAIR!
O’Reilly = Hypocrite. He just got a taste of his own medicine. If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. And numerous other cliches that may apply. Let’s not forget that this clown who loves to lecture us on morality was exposed as a pervert for sexually harrassing his female producer over the phone some years back.
