The answer might depend on which media outlet you rely on.
I read the headline at Democracy Now! on Friday:
“Justice Dept Drops 99 of 101 Cases Against CIA for Abuse and Torture”
The New York Times, on the other hand, offered a different sort of emphasis:
“U.S. Widens Inquiries Into 2 Jail Deaths”

Perhaps the NYT is just seeing the glass as, uh, half-full.
What do we do about the soldiers who were disgraced, blamed as a “few bad apples,” dishonorably discharged, prosecuted and sentenced to the penitentiary while their commander lied that “we do not torture,” and later boasted that he had authorized torture? If their commander, who was also a deserter from the Texas Air National Guard, not to be confused with the Air National Guard, is above prosecution couldn’t he be honorable enough to apologize to those loyal soldiers whom he disgraced? call for their discharges to be changed to honorable,? to be paid their military pay while they were imprisoned? and if they choose, returned to military life? It’s hard for me to believe there is something more cowardly than a commander bad-naming those who loyally served him, seeing them dishonored and imprisoned and doing nothing to help them.
Article II provides all the remedies we need. Impeachment supersedes all other business in the House: “The President, Vice President, and all civil Officers of the United States shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
Hard to see how impeachment would work without tremendous pressure from the public, but the courts, executive and legislature have all failed. Our options for redress of grievance are dwindling…
The justice dept. really is not to blame. The separations of powers act and the expanded constitutional powers of the president leave little room for any such measures. And imagine the hypocrisy. Bush in wartime uses advanced measures that i call torture- with no casualties(debatable).FDR and TRUMAN firebomb cities killing 75 thousand at a crack. And of course that leaves out nuclear.Re-dress is always best used at the voting booth. Punitive measures after the fact have not as of yet happened. It may if the crime is grievous enough. Did this raise to that level? In the eyes of near 100% of the liberals yes.In all other eyes probably not. Our torture techniques are despicable and must be ended. But you will notice that our enemies modus operandi is far more lethal.
Iran this past week hosted a huge anti terrorist get together. Everybody was there. Sound strange?Well the terrorists were you and i, and the jews of course. Alternate reality.Lets not go there.
