Last night (O’Reilly Factor, 1/10/11), Bill O’Reilly talking to Brit Hume:
O’REILLY: We have a network, an entire network that’s built around attacking Fox News and right-wing people. That’s all they do at MSNBC. They have nothing else.
HUME: How’s that working out for them?
O’REILLY: It’s not working out for them. But it does mean that I have to have 24-hour security. That I have to worry about my children being assaulted. OK? That’s what it means. You talking about nuts? These people ignite those nuts all day long.
I don’t see the equivalency of talk radio. I said that there is some of that and there is. Some of those right-wing people go way overboard and they shouldn’t. But I don’t see the equivalent of it.
It goes without saying that O’Reilly’s reading of other media is, shall we say, selective. Here’ s the New York Times editorial yesterday:
It is facile and mistaken to attribute this particular madman’s act directly to Republicans or Tea Party members. But it is legitimate to hold Republicans and particularly their most virulent supporters in the media responsible for the gale of anger that has produced the vast majority of these threats, setting the nation on edge.
The version as edited by O’Reilly (O’Reilly Factor, 1/10/11):
So let’s begin with the New York Times. In an editorial today, that far-left newspaper said, quote, “It is legitimate to hold Republicans and particularly their most virulent supporters in the media responsible for the gale of anger that has produced a vast majority of these death threats. Many on the right have exploited the arguments of division, reaping political power by demonizing immigrants or welfare recipients or bureaucrats,” unquote.
That is flat out reprehensible, and every American should condemn that New York Times editorial. Republicans had nothing to do with these murders in Arizona.
Which is, you know, exactly what the paper said—in the part just before O’Reilly started reading.

plus, “that far-left newspaper .” red meat to the easily riled up faux viewer.
BILL O’REILLY is in a wrong business. A side show would be more appropriate.
MSM AND LIBERALS HATE SPEECHES…
He is an opinion and not news. To be ignored. Simple.
MSNBC is what folks in O’Reilly’s trade normally like to call a “competitor”. Thank goodness we have an alternative to his BS.
Funny how Fox News commentators like to divorce themselves from the term “mainstream” – especially since a synonym for it is “normal”. O’Reilly and Hannity spend a lot of time slicing and dicing other people’s speeches and sound bites to get them to say what they want. Hardly what I would call “normal”.
As has been noted, O’Reilly cut out a very important (might I say “informative”) part of the NYT piece. The part where the writer criticizes efforts to blame the GOP or the Tea Party. That is just not normal. I think he does the same thing to the Bible.
Well, O’Reilly ain’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, to use an apt metaphor. When the going gets tough, or a little complicated, he wigs out and starts going off on the “far-left.” Like the other Rightists in media, he’s got very, very thin skin, and I think he knows that he’s often out of his league with most of the people he’s up against (especially all those smart-alecky leftist professors he “debates”), so he always falls back on the tried and true “condemn the left” position. You can accuse the non-existent (mostly) Left of anything, and the average rube who thinks the world of good old Bill will nod his head in agreement. Everytime. Meantime, O’Reilly and the others in his class live like pharohs, raking in the dough and livin’ large by throwing red meat to the proles, who see their chances of getting ahead diminish daily precisely because of hacks and new-money frauds and shills like O’reilly and Palin.
O’Reilly daily tears the left to shreds. As does Rush,Beck,Hannity,FOX and the rest of the “alternative media”.It is an easy thing to do(because the left is usually on the wrong side of the tracks)and really it takes no great intelligence. So whether Bill graduated top of his class at a very good school(he did)or not matters little. He is just another voice, as is Palin -in a growing din that has the lefts wrong way Feldon rhetoric- in their “CROSSHAIRS”.Oh no did i say crosshairs?I must be a killer
“that far-left newspaper” – all a matter of perspective
When you’re holding hands with Attila the Hun, the whole world looks “far-left.”
Michael e., As is the norm for you, my view, or no view. O’reilly hardly tears the left to shreds, at least if you are talking about issues. O’reilly said once that he did not say that a person would get jail time if they did not buy health insurance, but time and again, the tapes showed the times that he said the very statement that he purportedly did not say. But even then, he would not admit that he said it, and it was on tape!!!! And you are upholding this guy as a worthy source of news, that is truly amazing. O’reilly, time after time he says things, then denies having said it, he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, with the technology there is, doesn’t he know that it is on record, what he says?
Just because you say it, doesn’t make it so as you may seem to think that if you simply say it, it is somehow a valid point. It doesn’t work that way
Granted FOX noise gets high ratings, but it is apparent that the viewers are the most misinformed on most issues than the rest of the media sources. They are no really a news source. They are a Republican propaganda machine pumping out lies and misinformation most of the time. What they are is a fringe information source.
The facts speak for themselves and the so called left is not on the wrong side of the tracks, the facts are there for all to see. For you to say it takes no intelligence to tear the left to shreds, is simply absurd. And your sarcasm, as usual, has no place in a discussion that must include verifiable facts, for which your repertoire is vacant.
Rush, Hannity, Beck, Palin, and FOX noise are what you would call a clique. They all read from the same script, and you, who are not a member, but who wishes he were, just jumps on their bandwagon and repeats their nonsense. Take issue after issue, they all stand together in their disregard of the facts. They use hyperbole, mischaracterization, misinformation, outright lies, logical fallacies, ad hominem attacks, ad populist attacks, red herrings, straw men, and so on, ad absurdum. They say things similar to what you do, and that is apparent because you get it from them. On a previous post on another topic you made a ridiculous list of questions for the president. They were all of the form, “Have you stopped beating your wife yet.” Yes, they have taught you well.
Personally, I’d like to see you come up with some ideas of your own, which you seem incapable of doing, I have looked through the archives, and if you are anything, it is consistent(further I’d say, consistently wrong). So there is your challenge, if you want to be something other than a shill for the right, here’s your chance.
Well Raymond the challenge is not for me….. it is for you.Your side is loosing ground.Your side is getting crushed in elections, and ratings .So before the sand runs out of your hourglass held by the American people- it is up to you to scream as loud as you possible can that your ideology is the best. And prove it on you thread bare record. On one of my first blogs here I said my job(our job on the conservative side)will be to nail jello to the wall.Simply make Obama(and you by proxy)take full responsibility for your own actions.Well mission accomplished. That is the simple way to transcend liberal thought. You only need a mirror.Once people stood opposite and you mocked Them .Then it was hundreds of millions of people. As it grows to huge proportions it occurs to me you see that as a growing unwashed mass. All confused and misinformed by “Rush”.Is it possible that it is YOU who may be misinformed?Wrong all along? So you see me as a shill.Well yes I am a shill for living a healthy life.I am a shill for the joys of life.I am a shill for my passionate beliefs. If i cross swords with Rush or Fox well thats just fine.I said it takes no intelligence to tear the left to shreds.Well the right wing talking heads have done just that. You must admit as much. And as you consider them unintelligent……..According to your own beliefs i am correct. The unintelligent ones are creaming you day in and day out.And it is having an effect.
I wish you could see it from both sides.I was a Dem.I worked for Clinton, and Nader.I know the swamp I speak against from under the muck.Do you?
It’s funny. All the most ridiculous right-wing contributors to online comments like this say they used to be Democrats or “leftists.” It’s instructive to know that they aren’t smart enough or self-aware enough to know what they think and feel about the world. They can go from having or believing one world-view to a drastically different other world view.
