This week on CounterSpin: The release of police dash cam video of the killing of Philando Castile after the verdict finding the officer who killed him not guilty is just the latest turn in this bewildering and upsetting story, now sparking protests around the country. What does the Castile case tell us about the limits of the law in delivering justice for African-Americans killed by law enforcement, and what are some of the other fronts we need to fight on to push for that justice? We’ll talk with Ronnie Dunn, professor of urban studies at Cleveland State University.

Also on the show: Amazon “declined to comment” for a recent New York Times story on the online retail giant’s plan to acquire grocery chain Whole Foods—but did it need to? The paper managed to “independently” find sources to say Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is “ahead of the game, always,” and “is making shopping great.” There was one sentence allotted at the end for critics of the mega-deal. We’ll hear more of their concerns from Stacy Mitchell, co-director of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance and co-author of the recent report Amazon‘s Stranglehold.

We don’t need more training for cops. We need cops that don’t hate blacks or people of color. Why was thie dashcam video released after the trial? Because would have people seen his cowardly shooting of Philando Castile and that officer would have been conbvicted.
Loved the stacey Mitchell interview! Very intelligent and inspiring.
The Whole Foods retailer sells a most wonderful product that is 80% complex carbohydrates, 10% protein and only 10% fat. A diet so rich in nutrition that it would save you from over 95% of the illness plaguing America. For a worse-case condition for diet are meals at a fast food restaurant which are 5% complex carbohydrates, 35% protein and 60% fat. For the average American diet purchased from a supermarket is 50% fat, which clogs up every internal organ in the body.
Surely, hardly nothing can be more important then supplying people with nutritious food and FAIR needs to get onboard.
All fine and good ,JOhn, but I think you completely missed the theme of the interview. Do you really think Jeff Bezos bought Whole Foods’ because he cares about the nation’s nutritional needs? Ms Mitchell could not make a clearer case that he is simply expanding his empire , in pursuit of ultimate monopoly and data collecting on US citizens. Do you really want FAIR to get on board with that?
SLAVE ENFORCEMENT
Police in England and some cities in USA, they have no guns and so have no problem complying with the most essential requirement of law enforcement, keep the public safe at all costs. For law enforcement is a martyr’s profession as it is impossible to keep the public out of harm’s way when the safety of police is a higher priority than protecting the public.
Problem is, upper-half of society owns all the land and wealth, and the lower-half is deliberately kept impoverished to prevent the laboring-class from having the funds to hire the politicians needed to gain equality.
So, as law enforcement is in actuality slave enforcement, the 1,100 that are gunned down by killer-cops each year, they are all impoverished laboring-men. Also, the 2.3 million inmates incarcerated in USA, they are 95% impoverished laboring men.
