And now to the ongoing master class in letting your hair down, by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.These past few months, we’ve been watching her swig a beer, brandish a scrunchie without apology, and makeup free and telling everybody she doesn’t care what they think. And today, donning wing-tipped purple glasses at the swearing in of a new assistant secretary whose favorite color just happens to be purple. Proof that nobody does unplugged quite like the secretary of state, who is leaving office by the end of the year.
Remember this the next time someone in the media complains that they just don’t have enough time in a newscast to do all the stories they’d like to.
Well, first I searched on “scrunchie” to make sure I knew just what one was … and I did.
But how do you “brandish” one?
Mme Clinton has brandished many things during her tenure, which “unplugged” many folks’ hopes for justice.
But a hair accessory is what the corpress finds worthy of note.
It begs the question …
Is there a need for political satire?
Perhaps they meant she was waving it about it, and pulling it back like a slingshot, just waiting to bean someone with a scrunchie.
Political Satire? It would be casting, er I mean Brandishing Pearls before the swine.
I’m just disappointed Ms Sawyer didn’t give more info on this important development! What color was the scrunchie? What size? Was it a designer brand? Is it sexy? What does Barack thing of it? Will she appear on Oprah with it? What time? These are key things to know about a Secretary of State – – – how can Sawyer just gloss over them?? The people have a right to know!!!
But seriously, as Tom Lehrer famously remarked when Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize, ‘Satire has been made obsolete’ (paraphrased). When you read/see things and can’t seriously tell whether or not The Onion or Mad Magazine is producing it, something is significantly amiss in our media.
Just one of the many means that the CMSM uses to fill space so that they really give us thin gruel in place of real in depth news. Just like with the voting. they don’t have to stay up all night waiting. Just tell us in the morning when all the votes have been counted. No wonder we are some of the least informed and most poorly and wrongly informed. And I don’t mean just Fox “News.”

No kidding. That’s hard to top.
I find it insulting to women that we must comment on the fashion accessories of women politicians. No one commented on the clothing, makeup (or lack of), or hairstyles of the male politicians the way we find it acceptable to comment on fashion accessories. Well, maybe the orange hue of the representative from Ohio.
How about the evening the return of the McRib sandwich made the cut to be included in the 22 minutes-worth of the most important things that happened in the country and the world? Now that I’m almost 70, I only watch the news for the pharmaceutical ads.
Sawyer helped prepare Richard Nixon for his interview with David Frost. Remember how well Nixon did in that last interview? Nice job, Diane!
Pretty funny, Damn funny, actually – I only “watch the news for the pharmaceutical ads.” And yes, I’m pretty darn close. Though I watch them ads as a watchdog, not a potential consumer. Just to be clear. Ad watching is the new science!
Blissfully, I no longer own a television. This is my first campaign season without one. Imagine not seeing -any- political ads or “News” shows, and you’ll understand my joy.
I can still watch the Daily Show and Colbert online, which is the icing on the cake.
Actually the men’s cosmetics are just as interesting as the women’s. The flawless coiffure, the perfect skin, the sculptured suits – one can hardly imagine them working, let alone thinking. Movie villains used to have English accents but now we have a whole new generational makeover of sleazy clichés.
Jeff Thompson sums it up for all of us, I stopped subjecting myself to the vacuity of televised media and its harmfully biased images more than 20 years ago. All journalistic media is by definition biased, but at least in print or online, you choose which item to read in depth and you can compare differing opinions more easily.
