How can you tell that your country has gone to war again? Here are at least two signs.
–The same military official is on every Sunday morning chat show: Yesterday Joint Chiefs chair Mike Mullen was on CBS’s Face the Nation, NBC’s Meet the Press, Fox News Sunday and ABC’s This Week.
–You can watch TV reports about the astonishing accuracy of your weapons: On CNN last night, courtesy of Pentagon correspondent Chris Lawrence:
American Tomahawk missiles can be reprogrammed in flight. If there was a risk of civilian casualties, operators could change the target after launch. But the Navy did not use that ability, confident it was aiming at military targets. Moammar Gadhafi says the strikes killed civilians. But a defense official told us if you don’t have to reprogram your missile, you’re very confident in what you’re hitting.

Libyan civilians are presumably a cinch to ID, as opposed to folks in other countries where the US blows up stuff real good.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph …
I’ll bet there are no Democrats calling for this President’s impeachment. Probably “off the table”. Of course, the Republicans’ concern (and like most Democrats it seems excepting a few who will be quickly silenced) is how much money, when do we leave, and is Gadaffi going to be tossed out. My question is when will this President be impeached for violating the Constitution and when will the previous one be arrested for war crimes. I suppose the current one should be arrested, too.
The answer to both questions is never, gary. Mr Obama was required, by law, to prosecute torturers and war criminals. He decided to “look forward, not backward.” At least Mr. Bush fears going to places like Switzerland, where he knows the folks there take international laws and treaties seriously.Every president since Truman has got us involved in wars without bothering to first ask the Congress.
TimN,
Never? In this great country (he writes while laughing)? What about truth and justice etc?
Bush may fear the Swiss legal system but he will probably live out his days in near perfect peace and comfort. It seems Obama is so well liked since he’s not a crazy cowboy but a deliberating and thoughtful missle tosser that I doubt he will ever need fear going to another country.
First off I love FAIR! Lets call a spade a spade. I am an American citizen and I am part of the worlds most powerful cooperation in the world, the USA. American has taken over Iraq and we are there to stay. Libya is next! Soon we will own Libya and most importantly their OIL! I’m not proud to be an American but I am grateful that I’m not a civilian in a country that we’re blowing the crap out of! We are nasty and ruthless!
I like what Jon Stewart has to say about it: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-march-22-2011/america-at-not-war—obama-s-communication-gap

Stewart and Colbert both made merry this week about the CNN-vs.-Faux News spat after Falsey gloated that a bombing run on Gadhafi’s compound was aborted because CNN and Reuters had provided “human shields.” (Colbert needled Faux about not needing to be present to report the news, etc.; and it turned out that Faux had sent a crew there, just not its wary reporter.)
But neither show addressed a salient point about the incident: how did Gadhafi’s compound become a legitimate target in the “No Fly Zone”? Did it levitate? Mass media — even an Al Jazeerah panel I watched — assumed and spread the idea that the NFZ was about denying Gadhafi the use of airspace. Even after the U.S. and others started bombing ground targets, this deceptive short-hand for the military intervention has continued (and Pentagon/Clinton hacks kept saying they weren’t trying to kill G.).
You’d think the brainiac writers for Stewart and Colbert could have at least come up with something about flying tents …
All I can say is that we better steal all we can while the Empire is still standing, since it’s a forgone conclusion that it won’t be doing so for that much longer. Too bad all the other victims of corrupt leaders around the world don’t have enough oil under their soil, or we’d bomb/help them too. I just wonder what it would take to get Americans out in the streets if the financial ripoff didn’t do the trick. (and I DO mean TRICK)
Well at least Obama is going to war for good intentions(yes i am being sarcastic)Im no Obama fan as you all know…..but this one threw me for a loop.It is so un-Obama like, and un- Hilary like, that rational escapes me.I hope he knows something we don’t.So Im laying back a little. But it is getting painfully obvious (and i do mean painful)that the USA is far too involved as the worlds policeman.Think if Russia/China made all these moves. We would be screaming like banshees. On this one Ron paul is right. The last several presidents have overstepped Congress and the war powers act.
Every one or our wars and “police actions” have been under the auspices of “good intentions.” Whether the locals being slaughtered want it or not. Their deaths are immaterial to the triumphant call to arms to “protect” some one some where dependent on who the despot is. Libya okay, Baharain and Saudi Arabia off limits.
Oh yes, Mr. Obama, you say Gaddafi is one big bad guy. And what about the wonderful leaders of Yemen and Bahrain and Syria, where they are picking noff peaceful demondstrators by shooting them in the head? Not much negative about them coming from the White House.
The best part is not that those missiles can be reprogrammed while en flight so as not to hit civilians (not that the feature seems to be in use in either Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen or any other the other countries with oil the US is bombing the crap out of at present). The best part is that each one of those little missiles only costs 1 million dollars. At a time when teachers are being laid off, schools are closing, unemployment is rampant, people have no health care & their homes are being foreclosed on, this is really a slap on the face. In case there were any doubts as to where Amerika’s priorities lie, eh?
Speaking of a war of good intentions(for libs)…..Mr Soroses bitch- Mr Brock ,Has taken his media matters group and declared war on Fox(his words). Strangely he has not realized such a move is a tortious act, illegal as a 501c tax exempt charity. Now back to the article at hand and the reasons why you cant get correct information……
