Blogger Ben Somberg (7/3/10) notes that the New York Times is still telling readers that there isserious public concern about the budget deficit. This time the story is the debate within the Obama administration:
Political advisers are channeling the widespread public anger at deficits while the economic team argues that the government should further spur the economy to avert another recession.
For more on this, go to FAIR’s recent alert (6/24/10), “Inventing a Nation of Deficit Hawks.”

Ah yes, another phony “debate” allegedly coming out of the administration.
The NYT was also a major lie courier for the first such phony debate story, right at the outset of the administration, when the alleged Geithner faction “defeated” the alleged Axelrod faction on the overall thrust of economic policy.
It was a lie then and it’s the exact same lie today. Obama has never for a day had any policy question or “debate” at all but to continue the Bush enabling of maximum corporate looting.
One can have one’s cake (stimulus, i.e., jobs) and eat it too (no deficits). This simply calls for increasing the top income tax rate. The public has been consistently in favor of increasing taxation of the rich. Since the political advisors are so busy channeling the public, why not channel this sentiment?
What deficit? Obama just requested $33 billion for more war on Afganistan….?

signed Barrack Obama
How can anyone talk about controlling spending, while ignoring the largest item in the budget-Military expenditures and the lions share of Debt Service was incurred fighting past wars.
The NYT is just another MSM outlet that is full of shit!
It’s hard to believe that the New York Times was the first newspaper to print the Pentagon Papers.
FYI: I am a 72 year old veteran of 28 years active duty in the US Air Force, 1958-1986 I am old enough to remember when the NYT actually stood by their claim “All the News that’s Fit to Print” was true.
Not so today! The Times is is now just another corporate shrill.
