Conservative David Frum writes in the new issue of New York:
Back in 2009, I wrote a piece for Newsweek arguing that Republicans would regret conceding so much power to Rush Limbaugh. Until that point, I’d been a frequent guest on Fox News, but thenceforward some kind of fatwa was laid down upon me. Over the next few months, I’d occasionally receive morning calls from young TV bookers asking if I was available to appear that day. For sport, I’d always answer, “I’m available–but does your senior producer know you’ve called me?” An hour later, I’d receive an embarrassed second call: “We’ve decided to go in a different direction.”
This is interesting. Up to this point we’ve only been familiar with progressives–including FAIR staffers–who have been invited, and then promptly uninvited, to appear on Fox. There have also been reports about journalists who were critical of Fox who are barred from appearing.
In other Fox-related news, Bill O’Reilly last night proved that irony is alive and well, announcing that he’d be doing a segment on what the cable news networks should do when people “lie on the air.” Naturally, the lie he wants corrected is about something someone said about Bill O’Reilly. Later on, he told guest Bernie Goldberg:
I mean, on this program, if a guest says something that is untrue on this program, I will correct it as soon as we know it’s untrue. And I think all the networks should have that rule in place. You have to do that.
Totally in agreement. But what about when the untruths come from the host?

The irony doesn’t drip.
What is the word I’m looking for … ?
“Cascades” is a bit prosaic.
Ah …
“Excretes”.
I think that covers it.
And us.
I think the word you’re looking for is corpress.
at least Frum is honest
Thats the good thing about having two intelligent people one with a liberal view and a conservative view discussing issues happening today thats why i only watch Fox News or CNN but Fox is the one ill pick over Cnn anyday because Cnn still has a bias ….. that’s why i believe Fox news numbers will continue to go up because no one is telling the news straight facts from both sides like Fox News …… a Moderate perspective
I don’t understanding why a site called “Questionable Content” is allowed to advertise itself among the comments on every FAIR posting. The site consists of excerpts from various sites, and only by scrolling down through its endless out-of-context and often meaningless tidbits can one find references to FAIR, which, invariably turn out to be the cutesy, inane but always me-first comments of Doug Latimer.
Disclaimer:
The comments of “Maynard” are not a clever counterintuitive attempt by me to drive traffic to my site.
However, if you’re really interested …
And for the record, those QC refs aren’t generated by me. Both this site and mine are hosted by WordPress, and that appears to be a feature of their blog program.
There may be a way to shut it off, but I’m a stone technoramus, so I haven’t the foggiest how to do so, if indeed that’s possible on my end.
What’s the old joke that says something like “the definition of ‘ambivalence’ is watching your mother-in-law drive your new car over a cliff” ? I have to admit to a distinct lack of sympathy for these conservative apostates, who — after years of going along-with (and many times PROFITING-from) the nasty/brutish policies of the conservatives — suddenly discover that … surprise-surprise … they too can be treated in a nasty/brutish way when they diverge from the current talking-points. Yeah, I’m glad they ‘saw the light’ and reformed, so to speak, but where was their conscience & awareness before?
Hey Maynard, you want to pick your battles. Doug L. is on our side, speaking up regularly on this site, supporting the work of FAIR and promoting it on his site. What’s wrong with that? You don’t have to like it, of course, but don’t we all have bigger fish to fry?
Doug: Touché.
I think what Bill was saying is this…..If someone lies about you, call him out on it.Politics being politics, so much is just ignored as if that is always the correct response.Although it is hard to find the lies concerning situations you are not involved in ….it is at least easy to answer those things said about yourself.Bill was once accused of not living in the house he grew up in.He brought in the deed to the home obtained from mom.Silly?Maybe, but he has always felt strongly about answering what he sees as blatant lies. His point is it would be better if others brought in the deeds.
