This week on CounterSpin: Thanks mainly to independent and social media, and of course activism like Black Lives Matter, Americans have been forced to confront, and to know more about, police brutality and racism in the criminal justice system than just a few years ago. But corporate media conversation about what to do with that knowledge is constrained. We may hear editorial calls for better training, or more data, or sometimes even convictions of individual officers. But somehow we never see the problem of policing whole, so the deeper reckoning necessary for real change is forestalled.
A new book hopes to forward that conversation. It’s called The End of Policing. Author Alex Vitale is sociology professor and coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project at Brooklyn College. We talk with him about his new book.
Transcript: We’ve Got to Break This Mindset That Policing is the Only Tool
In addition, Janine Jackson takes a quick look at coverage of the bidding war for Amazon‘s second headquarters.

ROOT CAUSE — WEALTH
We live in a two class society, with the educated upper-half owning all wealth, with the uneducated lower-half doing all the miserable manual labor for starvation wages, with impoverished laboring men being all the criminals who do all the prison labor.
So, as wealth is the property we own above what is needed to have a comfortable life, as the educated people have always owned all the wealth, as uneducated people have never-ever
known a comfortable life, the perfect solution is for those more educated to be giving and those less educated to be grateful.
Otherwise, one of two things will happen.
(1) If nature is not by intelligent design, then life is an unalienable right and good is to earn all we can earn, to take all we can take, own all we can own and to be a dictator over all who are on land that we own. In short, surely we cause this world to expire in a convulsion.
(2) On the other hand, if the purpose of planet earth is to reach the ultimate conclusion of a lust for the glory and power of wealth, then when Empire USA expires in a convulsion, all things will turn toward the good in an earth made new.
