Daniel Hale
This week on CounterSpin: The idea that you don’t “shoot the messenger” dates back, evidently, to Sophocles. It echoes today as a man named Daniel Hale stands convicted nominally of breaking a law aimed at spies sneaking intel to foreign enemies, but actually with revealing things the US government didn’t want known about its drone warfare programs—the ones elite media have often presented as precise in separating “bad guys” from “innocents,” and so superior to other methods of (what we are to understand is) “counterterrorism.”
Big media have shown little interest in the case. We’ll get a backgrounder from researcher and journalist Chip Gibbons, policy director of the group Defending Rights & Dissent.
Plus Janine Jackson takes a quick look back at press coverage of Georgia’s voter suppression law.
Transcript: ‘Hale’s Crime Is Not Leaking Information, but Exposing Government Lies About the Drone Program’

Please would you consider writing a critique of The New Yorker Magazine’s piece, published online today, on Daniel Ellsberg?
Also, could you kindly provide readers an update on Julian Assange, imprisoned last I heard in Great Britain’s Belmarsh prison, and what’s the status of this nation’s pursuit of an extradition hearing—and whether the same judge whose background compromises her
(that is, would signify that she could not preside impartially) but who did not agree to Assange’s extradition to face charges under the Espionage Act here in this year’s trial.
I feel as if there is absolutely a complete blackout on news about all of this!
Whistleblowers are indispensable to the education of US Citizens as to what our Government is doing that it doesn’t want US to know about. If we don’t push aside theopera of domestic politics in which one of the main parties has given up on democracy&is attempting to install a fascist dictator wannabe to rule over a fascist, patriarchal, white supremacist autocracy. If the US doesn’t put aside these childish thing&unite with the rest of the world to forge a sustainable economy and preserve Earth as a livable planet4our children&theirs.
