Fox News Channel has a media criticism program (stop laughing!) hosted by former CNN/Washington Post media watcher Howard Kurtz. On the January 12 show, his roundtable was discussing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s current scandal—an issue that Fox has been rather loath to cover compared to the other cable news networks.
On the question of whether or not Christie is a bully, veteran Fox pundit Brit Hume had this insight:
KURTZ: So, what about this bully narrative?
HUME: Well, I would have to say that in this sort of feminized atmosphere, in which we exist today, guys who are masculine and muscular like that in their private conduct and kind of old-fashioned tough guys run some risks.
ASHBURN: Feminized?
(LAUGHTER)
HUME: Feminized atmosphere.
KURTZ: By which you mean?
HUME: By which I mean that men today have learned the lesson the hard way that if you act like a kind of an old-fashioned guys’ guy, you’re in constant danger of slipping out and saying something. That’s going to get you in trouble and make you look like a sexist or make you look like you seem thuggish or whatever. That’s the atmosphere in which he operates. So, this guy is very much an old-fashioned, masculine, muscular guy and there are political risks associated with that. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but that’s how it is.
So when you go around screaming at teachers, that’s just your “old-fashioned, masculine, muscular guy” “slipping out.” Makes you wonder what “slips out” at Fox News when the cameras aren’t rolling.

“[T]here are political risks associated with that.”
Such as … ?
The bastard was a corpress darling until they couldn’t ignore this scandal.
See Chris Hedge’s piece , “The Trouble With Chris Christie”, for some deep dish skinny on Christie’s channeling of Richard Daley’s machine politics
And take note of the Democrats’ collusion with it.
> … Well, I would have to say that in this sort of feminized atmosphere, in which we exist today, guys who are masculine and muscular
Muscular … muscular? Brit Hume ought to be fired for being so stupid, or quit and go try to be a comedian … muscular? LOL!
Muscular … muscular? Brit Hume ought to be fired for being so stupid, or quit and go try to be a comedian … muscular? LOL!
Well he has to have a lot of Muscle, to hold up all the rest of him.
I have to admit, he is a bit rough. But hay, do the Jersey Folks like em? That’s the key, and that is not easy to find the real answer, since too many have no immediate way of telling how many people in the media, actually even say what we were told they mean?
I see too many “corporate trolls” that simply post the latest ‘Blow’ from their Favorite Blowhard, whoever it is. If you look, a lot them are simply cut and paste.
We should never expect our pols to be Ken Dolls. That means they spend more time on their looks, then on their job.
Never in a million years would I have thought I would ever be a supporter of Chris Christie..until I saw the continuing attack on him by the Obama-loving MSM. If they are so afraid of him that they are into a 24 hour continuing attack mode (while ignoring the IRS, ObamCare, NSA, Benghazi, Fast and Furious)..he must be dong something right. If he decides to run..I might not have to write in my usual NOTA!
Faux News and Brit Hume are idiots. SInce over half the population is female, perhaps they will lose more of their audience.
It makes one wonder in which alternative universe hume is living. Now, the California govenator, Arnie, was muscular, and he had his share of woes, a lot from his own party. And he could be pretty hilarious. Face it, politicians are corporate-funded cockroaches. If they aren’t when they start their political life, it will be less than two years before them become cockroaches. And it doesn’t matter whether national, state or local, they all succumb to this disease nor does the political persuasion matter.
I think ANY medical doctor would be able to give a better definition or description of Chris Christie … and it wouldn’t even take an office visit. Never mind a psychiatric evaluation …. just a visual would be enough to elicit a pretty accurate medical opinion of this guy. And I’d bet my Social Security that he wouldn’t be described as “muscular” and “masculine” as he presents himself now. As a woman, visions of “masculinity” and being hot or “desirable” REALLY don’t swirl through my head when I see this man splashed all over the media. And that’s just the “visual.” Listening to Mr. Christie and knowing his style and watching his anger … SERIOUSLY? Guys call this anger and bullying “masculine?” SO REALLY NOT!!
Fox and Conservatives are not carrying any water for this guy.He is not on any of our xmas card lists. We just are guessing that he is probably innocent of this mess.and we are tired of watching him play the standup guy when he in fact is in a positioning game toward his political goals. To us he feels in that sense like a Dem.As far as what was said….Most of it is nonsense.people like christie because he may(may i say) tell the truth as he sees it and will mince few words.I suppose that is refreshing.BUT…..We on the right suspect his core values. We smell a deal maker.
One big difference between right and left I would like to point out…..IF,if i say he is found to of lied in any of this…..we on the right will will kick his big butt out the door so fast it will make your head spin.On the left ,he would be awarded some sort of job promotion.
“Makes you wonder what “slips out” at Fox News when the cameras aren’t rolling”
Well, that’s the point, isn’t it? This article gives us a good idea what goes on at Fox when cameras are ‘off’. Some clever cookie will probably shoot a ‘Candid moment at Fox’ and really ge us depressed.
But, if you know ‘Jersey’, CCrider is the right Guy in the right state. Fat? No, more ta like. ‘Padron’, i mean ‘Gov’, do me a favor please.
Sort of sounds like Hume has a thing for Christie, hmm? “Oh, Chris, you big ole masculine man, let me run my hands and tongue over your muscles,” drool drool. I am constantly amazed by so-called heterosexual men and the way they fawn over other men.
@Ruth-Ann- I think you mean Koch-roaches.
I remember when FOX put forward its format. They were going to report the news but they were going to counter the massive liberal bent of the rest of the news casts by pressing forward a more conservative slant. All my liberal friends called it dead on arrival.Anybody see the ratings on FOX?Huge!!!Last week at one point in the day CNN had less than 200.000 people watching.Id bet most of them were trapped in airports.Isn’t it grand that finally- the conservative viewpoint has such an out let?
michael e, only those wishing to remain woefully misinformed (and willfully ignorant) watch Faux “news.” Those who watch the other outlets are just fed corporate propaganda.
