find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complex and very broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next
post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
Thanx, Janine, especially for showing the PBS guidelines and ‘stuff.’ long ago for me NPR and PBS programming has been “suspect” for me for some time now and I rarely give(as I once did frequently as they were less prone to RW, or Centrist bias)to public radio/TV for that reason alone. I may give now and then for specific shows like The Diane Rehm Show which I heard daily long before it became syndicated, but then it was a DC mostly show each weekday morning on WAMU. I recall loving to watch Frontline and Nova, back to back Tuesdays, I think, and early 80s I saw a show on Nova about the ‘Runaway Greenhouse Effect’ on Venus, and how it’s good to have the Greenhouse Effect and how it helps keep the earth warm, but also not so warm as to create what’s happening on Venus(and even on earth now, glaciers melting, ice pack and Tundra melts, etc. Climate Change we know about is due to studying Venus. At any rate, Nova indicated being concerned was legit and that as a planet we could do things to help the earth regulate itself better. Anyway, I don’t recall who the corporate sponsors were, but back then Nova really was proud that it was clear that they gave not 2 shits about who sponsored the show, that they were about telling the science. Since President Obama was elected, and the BP disaster, XL Pipeline, somewhere I learned who the Kochs were, what astroturfgroups were;I even saw a movie astroturf wars about RW denial of climate change, RW fight against the ACA healthcare bill that folks seemed to have forgotten that both Republicans and Democrats voted for it, that it wasn’t Obama just signing a huge number of pages bill all alone himself, yet they call it Obamacare, what about GOPCare since they helped make it law?
I was pissed after watching the movie, as it had a guy doing a ‘seminar’ and he was telling everyone there to go to whereever media/books are sold, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.and to do reviews and to go down the list giving 1 star to every review, and, of course, he was referring to all liberal books, anything by Progressives or Democrats, and reading wasn’t even to be done cuz it slows you down. Seems it was Americans for Prosperity, and also does this guy not know the damage he is doing to credibility in reviewing of works by others. It damaged me cuz’ I couldn’t help but think RWers are all doing this and it gave me a negative view of ‘the other side'(if there is one), that dishonesty, and lying should be normal was a result of his proposal, and seems it worked, as not one in the group of 100 or so protested his actions. If I heard of a liberal spewing such nonsense(I know, there’s Thomas Friedman and more..sigh) I would call them out, just as I do when racists want to tell racist jokes, I leave, but not before metaphorically busting their asses.
Anyway, sorry, a bit on a tangent here. So, NOVA did another show about AGW, Climate Change, I don’t recall the name, but seems the title or theme took on a flavor of “Evolution or Creationism, you decide ”
And when the show was clearly one of politics, not science as they narrated the show and throughout, I kept wondering if I was watching what was akin to, Von Danikan’s super extraterrestrials who built the pyramids(Stargate is based on this ninnyhammered nonsense, though I loved the series, but I knew it was fantasy, not based on reality(although Carter explained shit real;ly well, as it was truly connected to science somewhat,.unlike the History channel’s Ancient Aliens, portrayed as though it was plausible they’d been here. So, at the end, out of curiousity I read the corporate credits at the end of the NOVA Show, that I was so disappointed in, and WhollyBabble Tower ot BULLSHIT stacked 50 stories high I saw Koch Industries as a sponsor, and NOVA producers cannot tell me there’s a line of demarcation of show versus sponsors and the Shania Twain won’t ever meet, I say bullshit! How can I watch a show sponsored by an oil giant that plays down the negatives, when just years ago first time around, the show said the opposite sponsored by oithers at a time when it really didn’t matter to NOVA which the show reflected as such. I’m done with PBS and NPR, etc, same way as I am with FOX, cuz more and more they are one and the same.
Also, I’m so excited, it’s Monday, Feb 16,2014, 7:15 AM and I opened mail from last week(Gee, I get arrears answering the mail, and me, a guy donates once and next thing I know, I’m bombarded with requests from all over for more money, constantly, funny how they’re using up my original donation in soliciting more donations and then they get others to do so as well.despite my asking them not to)and I discovered a bumper sticker from FAIR, Counterspin, The News ‘Behind’ the headlines. I can’t wait to put it on my car, but it’s snow bound right now. Thanx Janine Jim Peter etc.
