Fox host Glenn Beck has had it (4/27/10) with opponents of Arizona’s new immigration law making analogies to Nazi Germany:
I hate to rain on the hate parade here, but can we please slow down for just a minute and, I don’t know, think? You are comparing the systematic, cold-blooded extermination of millions of Jews to America making sure people are here legally. The parallels are… nonexistent.
Indeed. The guy who’s made a regular habit of deriding various White House officials as Communists, Maoists and the like is urging restraint with the historical analogies. Save the Hitler talk for people who really are behaving like the Nazis. Like Al Gore’s climate change activism, for example:

Beck is a propagandist and a good one. Idiot he is not. Authoritarian he is but a slippery one. The ones good at their job always are. Underestimating your opponent means they have already won against you. Look at what he is doing, building piece by piece an alternate view of what is going on and who the power players are. The corporations and the millionaires/billionaires owning our gov’t? No not really. It is the Progressive which is the new Commie and replacement for the Jew. It is Progressives who are European (& therefor not American l.e. foreign) and are either Communists (Stalin mold) or Nazis. No inbetween or any other type. Note he preaches MLK & Gandhi but his portrayle of Progressives is of the kind of enemies you can’t deal with in any other way but with violence. Don’t deride him, study him and what he and the others say on his show and the entire propaganda network of the Reich Wing. Then you can deal with those who will be ready to “correct” your views with what they have learned on the knee of Beck.
Glenn Beck is a high school style teacher who uses a black board to draw charts and illustrations, historical info. pamphlets, videos, like the video of the Nazi Party meeting in Madison Square Garden in 1939 w/ tens of thousands of Nazi supporters in attendance with the American Flag, a picture of George Washington and the Nazi Swat Sticker.
Glenn Beck is grossly misguided on this issues of immigrants in Arizona, but, I believe he may be the first one to see that sub-camps like the 5000 built right in the major cities of the Weimar Republic (1923-1928), Germany are already built (by FEMA, Halerburton, Kellog Root and Brown) and installed secretly in the US to exterminated: the foreclosure victims that become (30 million f/ 2007 and there will be 60 million by the end of 2011): homelessness in (now US cities are charging rents to the homeless as they did the Jewish people in the Weimar Republic) city shelters in the US (later they will be transferred to these secret US sub-camps).
Glen Beck is resented, as if he is some Adolf Hitler or Henrich Himmler figure, by the mainstream, progressive media, for his high school teacher journalistic style.
There is a story on nanotechnology and nano-size (1/10-1/50th the size of a human hair) micro-transistors (microchips, see: “The Flu Case” and exposes on: WBAI radio) that can receive radio signals and which are implanted in vaccines and the food chain to send radio-signals to the public’s brain. I see the fear and criticism of the media of Glenn Beck as symptomatic of a Nazi style takeover of the country. Fear that this High School teacher style journalist Glenn Beck will inform (on their spying and on implanted microchips) on them.
I think some purported neo-liberal progressives (are vampires) in the media are in the NSA spy complex (see Patriot Act) and are part of this NSA (micro-chips and spying) fascist takeover (spy on ordinary Americans for their free-speech, internet, e-mails, perspectives, etc., who send to (them) some of the neo-liberals in the media, and on extermination policies) of the country.

And remember it was Neo-Cons that passed the “Patriot Act” and made “enhanced interrogation” (torture) a common intelligence tool-in spite of the Geneva Accords. God help any of our troops who may be captured by any future enemy. They will be tortured and the blame will be on the “Bush Doctrine” , created by a bunch of chicken-hawks that never understood the military, warfare, or the need to follow our own laws and treaties. The troops are just faceless numbers to them-their spilled blood and pain just more “collateral damage” in wars with no clear goals or exit strategies.
The comparisons have nothing to do with Jew-killing Nazi’s, as Beck proclaims, but the idea that the Nazi’s required the Jews in 1939 to wear a yellow Jewish star on their clothing to identify them as Jews. That is what the educated man and woman are screaming about in regards to this insidious law. Arizona is the new Nazi party, requiring anyone who looks like an immigrant to carry papers with them 24-hrs a day-so they can be identified on the spot, like 1939 Germany! Beck’s an idiot and the master of twisting the facts.
I fully agree with you Nightgaunt. Glenn Beck seems like a ridiculous hate-monger straight out of some type of bizzaro-world to anyone with much education or the ability to think critically, but he is dangerous, cunning, and on a mission. He is carefully crafting an alternative, revisionist historical narrative that a good many people in this country buy into. It is an absolute and dangerous mistake to ignore what he is doing or blow him off as some sort of silly, right-wing nut-job. He is a right-wing nut-job;…but he is definitely not silly. In the absence of a progressive alternative narrative being pushed daily and consistently by a nationally syndicated TV, radio, twitter, and blog personality of equal popularity, Beck is an uncontested voice that will continue to exert influence (even if indirectly) on the public mind. I am amazed at how often I encounter people in my hometown (in southern Appalachia) whose opinions on issues are almost repetitions of what they have heard on Glenn Beck’s show (without them even being consciously aware of that). Beck ought not to be ignored. He must be countered, but without direct confrontation (which would only bring more credence to what he spews).
Exactly Aaron. Those that do give the alternate views, with facts, don’t use chalk boards nor teach in that style. On MSNBC it is Dylan Ratigan, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olberman & Ed Schultz along with Pacifica Radio and various places on the web, who do it with detail but if it isn’t in a general “popular” style, fewer people will watch. It isn’t hyped that it is god’s work either. It is on more than a high school grade level too. Without the pietus pontifications either. If news is too cerebral the average American tunes out.

Meanwhile, Glenn Beck has lost one-third of his viewers since January, and his viewership is down 7 percent since last year at this time.
America used to ignore the proclamations and rantings of terrorists, believing that listening to them and their demands was the same as legitimizing them, at the same time knowing their numbers and influence were limited. With the Bush administration, we witnessed systematic propaganda to instill fear in the US population by persistently talking about terrorism, terrorists, their goals and motives, and in effect legitimizing them in the world of conflict (even though they simultaneously denied them the rights of the individual). With Glenn Beck, we have a media terrorist who is playing the same game as the Bush administration, using fear as a lever to advance a nationalist movement, much as Adolph Hitler did in Germany. If there is a Hitler figure in America, it is Glenn Beck, and he is following the right-wing protocol of calling your enemy that which you are in fact an example of. There are many examples of this but the one that comes to mind most frequently is Dick Cheney proclaiming that the terrorists hate freedom, hate Americans for their way of life, when it was he who used the Supreme Court to install his administration into power, illegally initiated domestic spying, and unlimited detentions without trial, and an erosion of civil liberties that was and remains a miscarriage of justice and the rule of law.
Oh, Lord! And this “rag” calls itself Fair! Folks, open your minds, if you have any, and your ears, if you know how to use them, and LISTEN!!! Especially to Beck! If any one of you libs can refute the evidence that Beck presents, I’ll eat your hat … even if you do wear it backards! You have noticed that the red phone hasn’t rung yet? Not once!

How about “America already has the best healthcare system in the world, we do take care of our sick” debunked very effectively by none other than Jon Stewart, is just one that leaps to mind. There are many, many other less entertaining examples, but I do not care to try to convince Becks converts of this. That would be and exercise in futility.
Beck is a manipulative, petty corporate hack that will go to any lengths to secure his personal advancement. This is petty enough in and of itself, but he goes further by trying to foment anger and hatred amongst his countrymen by using fear and ignorance as a catalyst for his his selfish objectives. The sad part is, his “followers” are perpetually duped into supporting causes that often do more harm to themselves in the long run. Bruce, you are living proof that people like Beck can fool some of the people all of the time. My belief (and his popular decline seems to bear this out) is that he can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

All he needs to do is to fool enough of the people all of the time, especially voters, to earn his enormous paycheck. Just the core base of 30-35% is enough while working to keep voter apathy up over the Reich wing accommodating president doing their job for them makes them more powerful than their numbers would indicate. Beck is a leader and cheer leader for them. The more he can sway the better for the top 10% he is part of can get what they want done that much sooner.
