This week on CounterSpin: Donald Trump spent his entire campaign demonizing immigrants as dangerous, job-stealing criminals. While denouncing that, media sometimes dismissed it as mainly campaign rhetoric. Will they take the story seriously enough as a Trump administration tries to turn those ideas into policy? We’ll hear from Kica Matos, director of immigrant rights and racial justice at the Center for Community Change.

Also on the show: With reference to a senator who tweeted that he hadn’t voted for Trump, Trump adviser Omarosa Manigault said, “Let me just tell you, Mr. Trump has a long memory and we’re keeping a list.” “It’s so great,” she said. “Our enemies are making themselves clear.” That open reference to an enemies list looks to be a hallmark of this White House’s stance on civil liberties. Joining us to talk about resistance on that front is Sue Udry, executive director of the
Bill of Rights Defense Committee and Defending Dissent Foundation.

Plus a quick look at recent press—namely, media coverage of Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon.

Get organized? The left-liberal-progressive (whatever you choose to call them) are not much capable of organizing a garden party, no less mature, intelligent, long-range political action. They’ve behaved like children playing an adult game. And make no mistake. This (the fascist takeover of this country and beyond) is no garden party. If the people spouting the same niceties all these many years had actually gotten together and made a serious effort we would not be dealing with the current development. Instead, they continually bickered, played footsie with the right and mainstream media, when they should have created an effective strategy to combat the very forces that have now stolen everything we hold dear. And they’re not going away so easily. Nor do I say any real shift among the left-liberal-progressive among away from their own form of business-as-usual. One final request. Please stop referring to our society as a democracy as that no longer exists. Stubbornly clinging to the notion that it does is symptomatic of the naïve resistance which has gotten us where we find ourselves now. Wake up and grow up, people.
Would you care to propose any actionable suggestions on how we address these issues? “Wake up and grow up” are pretty broad and vague suggestions. Could you please offer some specifics of what you think would be an appropriate response to the situation we find ourselves in?
Our nation is NOT a democracy! It is a Constitutional Representative Republic. Look it up. The ‘Democracy’ you claim is one of mob rule, not representative of all citizens whatsoever. In other words:
“Democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49%.”
Democracies never stand the test of time..just as socialism doesn’t.
Women are being assaulted on the streets of Sweden and Germany by the immigrants. They’ve been sexually harassed and taped. They have said that they want everyone to follow the Koran. They don’t compromise and said they’d rather cut off the head of a gay person and throw them off he clift before accepting them. Women in the aforementioned countries say they are afraid to walk the streets now and never go out alone. Why won’t the press tell the truth?
