This week on CounterSpin: As we record October 4, it looks like Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed for the Supreme Court—despite, well, despite so very many things. Why are Republicans so set on pushing through a candidate opposed by a coalition of Christian churches, as well as thousands of law professors, as well as anyone concerned with sexual assault? And beyond his “temperament,” what ought we know about Kavanaugh’s record as a judge? We’ll talk about that with Marjorie Cohn, professor emerita at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, former president of the National Lawyers Guild.

Also on the show: “Bezos Unbound,” says the cover of the current issue of Forbes magazine, stating of the head of Amazon.com: “He’s Built the Most Innovative and Feared Juggernaut of the 21st Century—And Every Industry Is Now Fair Game.” So that’s…good? Is it appropriate for media to approach Amazon as though it’s simply a better mousetrap, and Bezos as though his bank account of $160 billion can coexist happily alongside workers who’ve just had their minimum wage pushed up to $15 an hour? Where do we have the conversation about the impact of Amazon‘s size, its influence and its values, on community? We’ll hear from journalist Neil DeMause, author of, most recently, The Brooklyn Wars.

It’s highly likely that King Bezos of Amazon’s huge team of bean counters found that the end result of depriving employees of bonuses, etc. in order to “pay for” this latest PR stunt (that the corporate media is lapping up) will end up with more profits for Bezos/Amazon in the next few quarters…
This is great examination of his record.

If Trump had nominated Mother Teresa or Mahatma Gandhi for the Court, the Democrats and the Deranged Fascist Left would have dredged up some figure from 50 years ago to accuse them of kicking their dogs and cheating at cards.
When it comes to the Deranged Fascist Left (in the US and elsewhere), any old smear and conspiracy will do. Trump is a KGB Spy taking his orders directly from the Kremlin. Every election is controlled and rigged by Putin. The 2016 US election, the Brexit Referendum, the Catalonia Referendum, the elections in France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Bulgaria, Moldova, Montenegro. The latest Star Wars film was a flop because of Putin’s villainous machinations. America was a model of racial and social harmony before he destabilised it. There is no limit to Vlad’s villainy.
So Who’s accountable for this…..why it’s “We the People” willfully steeped in unimaginable ignorance, wrapped in faux nationalism and silent acceptance, tempered by an apathetic disregard for humanity. Democracy in the US is so corrupted by money that it is no longer recognizable as a democracy. You can kick individual politicians out of office, but what do you do when the entire structure of politics is corrupt?
If citizens wish to see their will manifested in this system of government, they will need to move beyond symbolic actions such as petitions and protests, and engage in effective economic, political and social sanctioning actions against politicians, corporations and wealthy elites.
Citizens must learn to attack politicians, corporations and wealthy individuals in response to legislation they oppose. Nonviolent economic sanctions can be applied to these groups by boycotting their companies and products, disrupting shareholder meetings, waging effective campaigns via social media to effect price drops in their stocks, pushing divestment campaigns and impacting the operational costs of their businesses.
