NBC (Nightly News, 7/19/11) did some polling to see what the public thinks about the Republican and Democratic positions on the budget and debt ceiling :
CHUCK TODD: Now, look, any sort of deal is putting pressure on the bases of both parties. For Republicans, a large majority of the country is telling Republicans get off the no new taxes pledge and compromise, 62 percent.
TEXT:
NBC News/The Wall Street JournalShould Republicans Compromise?
Agree to Raise Taxes
Yes 62%
No 27%
TODD: But inside those numbers, tea party supporters, 65 percent of them say to Republicans, “No. Stick to your guns and stick to that pledge.”
As for Democrats and entitlement reform, look at this one. A majority, 52 percent of everybody we tested, said to Democrats, “Stick to your guns and don’t allow cuts in Medicare and Social Security for deficit reduction.”
TEXT:
NBC News/The Wall Street Journal
Should Democrats Compromise?
Cuts to Social Security & Medicare
Yes 38%
No 52%
TODD: So as you can see, it’s a mixed political bag for both parties, but particularly for Republicans.
So 62 percent of those polled said Republicans should compromise, while the opposite proportion–38 percent–said Democrats should do the same. That translates into a “mixed bag” for both parties–that is, if corporate media are doing the mixing.

Looks like these schmenges failed basic math, as well as basic ethics.
It’s a mixed bag if the elected so-called “Democrats’ want to cut Social Security and Medicare…which seemingly a good number of them are comfortable with…I really don’t know what makes a lot of them “Democrats” anymore (one reason I prefer not to call myself one anymore). I think that fact bothers me even more than Chuck Todd (who actually bothers me quite a bit…why doesn’t he come down here to Louisville and get a job handicapping horses at Churchill Downs and leave the political analysis to grown-ups?).
I hope you guys cover the so-called “super congress” when you get a chance. It is very worrisome.
The fine art of detachment from the facts seem to be current news media stock and trade. News if only propaganda is of no use. Todd is a Republican Toad!
A simple request to fellow readers of FAIR:
Please try to use proper grammar and punctuation. It makes it so much easier to read and understand your thoughts. None of us know you, nor can we hear inflections in your voice (as this is text, duh). By failing to operate under simple conventions, you reveal your ignorance and your point may be lost.
I am an Independent so think anything of this this but… I had type up something to send my representative, senators, and the president about my opinion about the Debt Ceiling! I goggled Jeff Session, Spencer Bachus, and Richard Shelby and had no problem… first page was able to click on a website to send my message. I tried the same thing with Barack Obama… I am just saying I went through 5 pages and was not able to click on a website that would allow me to send my message! All of the sites where for volunteering, join him for 2012, etc.???? I think we have some business here that has to be done before the 2012 election!!! Just saying!
