Brian Stelter reports in the New York Times that Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity are renewing their contracts…meaning that we’ll be enjoying–and paying for–their talents through the 2016 election season.
Not many people around Fox wanted to speak on the record about the new deals, but Stelter granted anonymity to one Fox insider who was more than willing to spill the beans:
A colleague of Mr. O’Reilly’s, speaking on the condition of anonymity because Fox had not given permission to speak on the record, said he seemed as engaged as ever, despite having had the job for 16 years. “He always brings his A game,” the colleague said. “Every single day.”
What, nothing about how charming and funny he is in real life?! Surely a well-placed whistleblower could have clued us in on that too.
It’s worth mentioning–again–that the Times is supposed to have rules that limit the use of anonymous sources:
The New York Times rules state, for instance, that anonymity is “reserved for situations in which the newspaper could not otherwise print information it considers reliable and newsworthy,” and “should not be invoked for a trivial comment, or to make an unremarkable comment appear portentous” (“Confidential News Sources Policy,” NYTCo.com).
It’s hard to see how “Bill O’Reilly is awesome” meets the standards set out in the Times anonymity policy. But those are rules that are apparently made to be broken, especially if it means getting this kind of vital news into the paper.

WE HAVE A GOVERNMENT THAT IS SPENDING US INTO HELL AND DESTROYING ALL THAT SO MANY OF US FOUGHT FOR AND SOME SLIME BALL WANTS TO MAKE “POLITICAL ISSUE” ON THE FACT THAT O’REILLY AND HANNITY” ARE MAKING A NEW CONTRACT WITH FOX NEWS…SO WHAT ?? WHAT THE HELL HAS THIS GOT TO DO WITH WHAT THAT NUT OBOMA AND THE STUPID SENATE ALONG WITH “REID” AND THAT CRAZY NUT NANCY PELOSI HAVE DONE TO DESTROY WHAT “WAS” THE GREATEST COUNTRY THE WORLD HAD EVER SEEN…GET A LIFE JERK OR GET THE HELL OUT. YOU ARE FAR FROM A WHISTLE BLOWER, HELL YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT A REAL WHISTLE BLOWER IS.
I am becoming less and less surprised that the NY Times would give an “insider” a chance to describe how successful are wealthy right-wing pundits. All the while, the right wing is so so concerned about a “liberal media” in the mainstream media. I’m thankful for FAIR.org for pointing out the rightward bias in NY Times reporting.
Even the small things need to be pointed out.
Gotta love the NYT sources (just like those of the Israeli ‘media’) they’re always anonymous. More proof of who owns both and what the agenda is and that the NYT is nothing but an overpriced good for nothing rag whose sole purpose is to misinform the readers and spread official propaganda for their masters.
Nick Roy just barfed up his Fox News intake for the day. The point isn’t about OReilly’s salary….any buffoon in media that rolls with the company line will bet paid well, be it Hannity or Brian Williams. That’s no more newsworthy than Limbaugh’s 400M. The point is that the New York Times uses anonymous sources to make even silly, uncontroversial points. Which makes you wonder if anything that they report is trustworthy.
As an aside, did you forget about the eight years Bush used to run the country into the ground? I remember the day after the last presidential election… the Fox News earbud folks at work were already running around the office saying “everyone else owns this mess.”
Wake up Nick…question some of your own B.S. line….and there is a CAPS LOCK button you can use…
The fact that the Rupublican Party has been the party of the mega-rich and the douchebags on Fox are their mouthpieces is quite clear to critical thinkers. What is not so clear is that the Democratic Party has also been the party of the mega-rich since at least Clinton and that the pundits on the so-called “left” (Nation Magazine etc. and even FAIR to a certain extent) are apologists for the DP.
But as long as we the compassionate critical thinkers spend our precious time talking about hot-air-bags like Limbaugh, we squander the opportunity to define what it is that we stand for. We need to always speak the plain truth about a world in which we consciously strive towards love, generosity, justice, compassion, understanding, inclusion, conservation, and preservation. The reason why the so-called “left” is not taken seriously by the masses is because we are always codependently reacting to the so-called “right” instead of articulating our vision which brought us to this depressive hellhole of truth-seeking/speaking which frankly I would rather abandon for an episode of Dancing With The Stars!
I believe Nick Roy’s post must be a joke. All caps? The name? The idea that America was perfect until Democrats got elected? America love it or leave it? There is a similar guy over at Dean Baker’s blog who I think does a better job, but this one is first rate. The problem, of course, is that the right in America operates at this level. So you really can’t know until you read many comments by the same guy, and even then it is hard.
I would recommend that “Nick” stay focused, however. I know that right-wing nut-jobs don’t normally even read all of the articles they comment on. But it should be noted that this site is focused on media criticism. It discusses how the news is reported, not the news itself. If you don’t even get that, then no one will get the joke.
This is somehow worthy of coverage? FOX is nothing but a ‘full force’ right wing propaganda source. They feed the public a steady diet of misinformation, half truth, spin, fear mongering and lies. It’s not a news machine, it’s a ruse factory designed to get under the skin of well intentioned (but) ignorant folks like Nicky boy to manipulate them into denouncing the government to the point they will vote against their own best interests.
Faux News is for Plutocracy NOT representative government. And Mr. O’lyely..er excuse me: ‘ O’Reilly ‘ is one of thier best architects of ‘population thought management’. As for the Times all I can say is: Kim Kardashian’s divorce is a more legitimate story than anything FOX puts out to the public. The Times should issue a retraction by saying : The Times regrets giving space to the recent non-story regarding FOX and O’Reilly and promises to exercise proper editorial restraint as it relates to their continuous false narrative toward it’s mission to undermine the American people and federal government of the United States.
Oh my, such brave and intrepid reporting from America’s paper of record.
The NYT is afraid of Fox News and maybe afraid that Rupert will buy their newspaper someday and fire anyone who showed previous “disloyalty” to Fox.
Oh, and people who type their responses in capital letters are goobers.
Lol…. Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity were honored by FAIR in 2008 among the ‘Dirty Dozen Top Islamophobes’.
Without the so-called “speaking on the condition of anonymity” – The western mainstrem media would loose its “divine rights to lie” to the public. Without it the Ziocons cannot call Ahmadinejad or Putin or Chavez re-elections – as “FRAUD.
http://rehmat1.wordpress.com/2011/12/08/clinton-russian-elections-were-fraud/
Hey Rehmat, If you don’t know the difference between loose and lose,
rhat calls into question any assertions you make.
Larry, shooting the messenger when one doesn’t like the message is a low blow. Picking on someone who speaks/writes English as a second language is even lower. Typing “rhat” instead of “that” while doing it is priceless!
The way things are going the NYT will soon only be giving anonymous weather reports!
Why is FAIR wasting space on this?So Bill o and Hannity signed on again. They have high ratings so that is expected on a very successful network. This story be Brian Stelter looks like he was on vaca all week, had five minutes to get a story in,and wrote this bit of fluff.Moving along people ,there is nothing to see here.Lets get back to Obama standing on his record -and Mitt telling us what he would do differently.
NICK ROY! Turns off your caps lock. It’s not helping.
American writer and PRN radio host, Steve Lendman, on March 6, 2011 posted on his blog that “major media is promoting war in Libya”Â. He named FoxNews, New York Times, CNN and BBC (all owned by pro-Israel Zionist Jewish or Christian families). He cited some of Fairness and Accuracy in Media’s (FAIR) 2008 Dirty Dozen Islamophobes, like Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly for spreading lies about Qaddafi and Muslims……..

So FOX and all the rest are owned by Jews and christians?Hmmm that is a problem. To think in a predominantly Judeo- christian country(USA) .That the majority of businesses(any businesses)are owned ,and operated by the predominant faction in that country is really a weird stat.I guess we have to make sure that Muslims,Buddhists,New age believers, scientologists, and every other religious belief has their own media outlet- irregardless of market forces, ratings or any other standard.Just to make us a country built on (here comes that word)……..fairness.As far as Beck and the rest of OUR whistleblowers God Bless Them.
Oh, my. There’s some weird self-reflective stuff going on here. The original article was, as noted, commenting on the NYT’s use of anonymous sources for trite things. But some ALL CAPs nut job responder who can’t spell got us going. As one responder notes, the left has to stop making knee-jerk responses to the right (especially the senseless off-the-map stuff that “Nick” spouts).
As George Lakoff has discussed in several of his books, we need to get off the right-wing agenda and start setting our own. That’s tough in Canada where I have to live with a right-wing government that has clever ways of manipulating the news, but its even tougher for those in the U.S. Canada can’t (thankfully) come close to matching an O’Reilly and his like for mainstream drivel, where even the innocuous term “liberal” gets somehow mixed up with communist, socialist, fascist, dictatorship and a whole melee of incongruous terms. As every first-year philosophy student knows, it’s hard to have a conversation when the opposition keeps (often purposefully) messing with the terms.
Thank you, FAIR, for keeping us informed of this stuff. While we have to acknowledge the power of the right’s insistent messages, we have to start aggressively creating our own — to hell with getting mixed up with the Nicks of the world. As someone once said: “Never wrestle with a pig. All you do is get dirty — and the pig likes it.” (My apologies to all self-respecting cochons and gardeurs de cochons.)
