In today’s Washington Post (10/11/12), David Fahrenthold goes through some of the more memorable moments from recent vice-presidential debates—including several big, decisive errors. Like this one:

Dick Cheney pretends not to recognize John Edwards at the 2004 vice presidential debate.
In other instances, the job was done with a single well-timed put-down.
“I’m up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they’re in session,” Vice President Richard B. Cheney told then-Sen. John Edwards (D–N.C.) in 2004. “The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight.”
That turned out not to be true. But for Edwards, it still hurt.
So the lesson seems to be: Make sure your lie is really devastating, since the fact that it’s a lie won’t matter much.
Imagine if the lesson from that debate had been a different one. Something like, “Hmm, this Cheney guy can’t be trusted.”

Why are surprised that Cheney wouldn’t recognise Biden. He doesn’t recognize anyone but himself. In fact, I doubt Cheney even understands there is anyone else in the world but himself. This is one most egotistical, self-centered, uncaring person around.
It shocked me that Sen. Edwards never told Cheney he did meet him a number of times.
That rebuttal would have been damaging to Cheney.
I’m an “Eisenhower Republican.” I’d be ashamed to admit I met Cheney other than accidentally.
Remarkable, isn’t it, that snarly is the way to go in debates. If anyone dismissed us as smugly as these guys dismiss each other, we would think they were being rude. But yet we like it in our politicians. Guess it denotes leadership or something. I just think it tells us to run away from them as fast as we can. As for anything as charming as truth, you got to be kidding me right?
Clinton famously said that “a few years ago Obama would of been fetching us our coffee”to some of his colleagues. Why am I saying that?Because Im reaching back four years. You are reaching back a bit longer. Now can we all move on.There is a world of important things going on.Instead you lament Dick Cheney beating Edwards in a debate?People we are talking John Edwards here. Not exactly a stirling character to use for an example.
In the last VP debate Biden said “so now your Jack Kennedy”to Ryan.Ryan never said “he was Jack Kennedy”He was speaking about Kennedy’s speech where he said cutting taxes will always explode the amount of money coming in.Rush plays it all the time.So was that a lie by the VP?Actually Ryan is far from Kennedy. No one could bang cocktail waitresses 2 and three at a time, every day in the white house pool like randy Jack. That would of been my answer to Joes retort.
