Because America Loves Dogs More Than Europe

FAIRNESS & ACCURACY IN REPORTING
Challenging media bias since 1986.
FAIR is the national progressive media watchdog group, challenging corporate media bias, spin and misinformation.

Peter Hart was the activist director of FAIR for 15 years, as well as the co-host of FAIR's radio show CounterSpin. He is now the senior field communications officer for Food & Water Watch.

FAIR is the national progressive media watchdog group, challenging corporate media bias, spin and misinformation. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. We expose neglected news stories and defend working journalists when they are muzzled. As a progressive group, we believe that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information.

America, Inc. loves dogs more than innocent Iraqi civilians.
Michael Vick was sentence to 23 months for his involvement a dog fight; but, â┚¬Ã…“a pretrial agreement means Marine Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, the last defendant in the Haditha trial, will not serve any time in prison for his role in the killing of 24 Iraqis in 2005.â┚¬Ã‚Â
In the U.S. saving Europe would not sell as many copies as “Animal Friendships.”
“Can these dogs save America?”
Timeless!
LOL, because of the Susan G. thing… WHY did TIME make it a PINK cover? Does the Chihuahua have breast cancer? Maybe TIME should have combined the bloodhound and the gentleman……a sort of Sherlock Holmes theme..” CAN any mammals save this Planet? “
I had figured out that Time magazine was a worthless rag by high school. It hasn’t changed at all.
I am a shelter volunteer in France. The local shelter is no-kill. Still, the dumped animals leave me heartbroken and outraged. My only grandchildren are feline and canine – all rescued from the cruel streets of San Antonio. I think the Time cover reflects the growing movement for standing up for the powerless and voiceless and the innocent, human-proliferated beings on death row.
The media have to be more careful at the imperial core, because the people there have more potential to make a real difference…
The problem is that some folks in this nation have become dog-obsessed. Dog worshipers fail to see what is going on around them thus could not care less about anything non-dog related. Even ad agencies seem to feel if they don’t include at least one dog in a TV commercial, they have somehow failed humanity. Dog people are vocal, aggressive and hyperactive just like their canine counterparts. They unite and will stop at nothing to promote dogs at every opportunity, that appears to be their sole mission in life. Combine the dog worshipping crowd with those engrossed in the latest reality TV tripe, or other mindless messes on television, and you have a nation of citizens who are at the mercy of corporations and the politicians they own. Could anyone expect these people to care, or even notice, what is going on in Europe?
This magazine says it all about the USA. Over the past 30 years Americans lives have become empty and devoid of hope from either having to work 2 jobs or both the mom and dad having to work just to stay above water. We now look to our pets for the companionship and love that we can’t get from each other. We no longer can connect because our time is monopolized by just trying to get by as workers. If we didn’t have our pets there would be no hope no reason to ” behave”.
With regard to Glenn,Elaine & Susan’s comments,I agree that dog-lovers seem to have an almost obsessive & antisocial adoration for canines;even supposed progressives like Stephanie Miller seem to equate animal rights & pet-owner concern w/ more pressing issues like workers rights, racial equality & LGBT empowerment. As for Mr. Thompson’s comment,I couldn’t agree more-I realized a long time ago that “Time” is a purveyor of pro-Establishment,supposedly nonpartisan yet de facto conservative pablum.
Jrome has a point, too. Being a “world leader” and putting trillions into war and planning future wars is very wearing on the nerves. Between this and job stress, it’s little wonder that many of us walk around popping Nexium or Prilosec for acid indigestion. Our pets are one of the few sources of comfort.
This loan shark says, make them pay, beat them until they pay everything, but don’t beat them so hard that they can’t keep paying. That loan shark says, if you don’t make an example of this one, the others won’t respect you. Beat them to death. And it is between these two poles that the bankers, ratings agencies, and EU leaders oscillate. –Richard Seymour
