I was struck by this December 30 headline at the Huffington Post: “Only 21 Percent Of U.S. Voters Support Net Neutrality.”
Really? Well it turns out the poll was conducted by Scott Rasmussen, whose polling has made him afavorite at Fox News Channel. The real story here is that the poll question was clearly cooked up to achieve the desired outcome. As Amy Lee noted near the bottom of the piece, Rasmussen asked this question:”Should the Federal Communications Commission regulate the Internet like it does radio and television?”
But the FCC’s proposed net neutrality rules do not at all resemble regulation of radio and television, which (among other things) requires station owners obtain a government license to broadcast onthe public airwaves. Lee writes that the question “defines net neutrality in a very restricted way.” But that’s putting it way too kindly. The poll is a fraud, and a familiar one.In 2009 Rasmussendid a survey about the Fairness Doctrine, which was debunked here at the FAIR Blog (2/17/09).Rasmussen asked respondents if “the government should require all radio stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary.” The Fairness Doctrine never did any such thing, but conservatives have long argued that it would squelch right-wing talk radio. They’ve been trying to dosomethingsimilarwith net neutrality, scaring people about a supposed government takeover of the internet.

that question, which totally misdefines “net neutrality,” was classic push-polling from republican fraud scotty r….
ps
i suspect a lot of folks read this question as “”Should the Federal Communications Commission regulate PORN on the Internet like it does on radio and television?”
Polls shmolls.I would tell Rush that this is a spurious argument he is proffering. If the FCC under any sponsorship, government or otherwise, ever tried to interfere with the content of Rushes- or Hannities ,or Becks show I know that even the most liberal among us would lay down their very lives to stop such an infringement of our constitution.Right?Right?Hey guys where did everybody go?
I wonder if the same “false positive” results are tied to the poll that 68% of Americans want the Estate Tax eliminated? [death tax. . . really. . just joking].
If the people in the poll think that Bill McGuire should keep ill gotten gains of more than $1.3 Billion, or the many on Wall Street who have plundered and are plundering the economy.
And why can’t Huffington figure this out when they publish something. Isn’t it basic journalism to verify? to ask questions?
To some extent, calling the issue “Net Neutrality” is not a good idea. People don’t understand how the Internet works. We know that the Comcast/NBC deal is a bad idea, but not many do in this frame.
Take the Comcast dispute with Netflix. As Net neutrality, people’s eyes fuzz over, and you can make all kinds of abstruse technical arguments that make this look okay.
But here’s the reality: Netflix offers you $8 a month for all the movies you can watch. Comcast’s On Demand STARTS at $3.99 per showing. What’s wrong about Comcast holding up Netflix is sheer monopoly power, as defined in the Sherman Act.
ANYTHING associated with “”FACIST FOX”” NEWS IS A DEBACLE AND FRAUD!! A PUT UP JOB!! PUTTING MILDLY…
WE all KNOW THIS FACT BY NOW!! THEY ARE JUST PUPPET!! OF GUESS WHO???
ITS SO OBVIOUS!1
I agree with Michael E! This GD government has got to start retreating and getting out of the American people’s personal business! That goes for getting out of the auto, banking and insurance industries and more importantly get the HELL out of our health care business!
Frank, I look forward to hearing about how happy you are when you have settled down in your new home in Somalia where the government does not regulate banking or insurance. I hear they do not even do much to regulate guns.
Tishado
A pullback on government regulation and general interference into our lives will be the equivalent of setting up house in Somalia?Thats thick even for a lib.
Look right now we are seeing that all the states with the lowest tax burdens are simply doing better.Forbes states that states that vote Dem the most- are suffering the worst ,while red states are doing the best.Top five states are Utah ,New Ham,Nebraska, texas, virginia.Worst are Ill,Ny,Nj,Conn, cal. In fact the top 8 of ten are all blue. This spreads pretty cleanly across the nation. It is the same almost everywhere.Mostly due to strong unions, public programs, and yes taxes.Across the board these stats pile up.It is simply better to live in a red state. And even during this recession they are fairing better.
As far as guns go………Those states like Texas awash in personal firearm permits are by far the safest.I doubt Samalia has many legally issued GPs.
Here goes my favorite saying again.”The road to hell is paved with liberal good intentions”
Gov Christie is force feeding through an enima the bloated bureaucratic mess that is NJ.And it is working!Tough love though it may be.
Uh…Texas is in big trouble….
This month Texas’s part-time legislature goes back into session, and the state is starting at potentially a $25 billion deficit on a two-year budget of around $95 billion. That’s enormous. And there’s not much fat to cut. The whole budget is basically education and healthcare spending. Cutting everything else wouldn’t do the trick. And though raising this kind of money would be easy on an economy of $1.2 trillion, the new GOP mega-majority in Congress is firmly against raising any revenue.

Be very careful mikey e, you are in absolutely no position to insult anyone else’s intelligence. Dimwits like you and ‘frank’ don’t even realise that you are just turkeys voting for christmas.
It is simply better to live in a red state

It’s obviously an unfair battle: those who care only about themselves, and money, and those who care about fairness for all. In a world where money is the currency, fairness will lose to money most of the time. Self-interest is symbolized in monetary currency. If you can pile it up to take care of yourself, you also have power. And so many who don’t have it aspire to have it, and so even in relative ignorance, such as a number of those posting here, they support issues they believe make it easier for them to make money.
michael e: Your argument about red states fairing better than blue states is so full of holes there is nothing there to respond to. My guess is you are 25 or 26 years old tops, or at least that’s your intellectual age, and thus you know little of the way things work. Learn more before posting your rants, you’re insulting people who know far more than you do.
Those that play in the toilet will eventually drink the water.
Mg The article I referenced is in Forbes magazine.Same thing ran in Wall street. Not sure what their intellectual age is.The idea that red states are fairing better has been covered pretty much everywhere. The reason why is ok to argue about. That they are -is not open to discussion. For your benifit i will just say that for some reason…they are.If that make me intellectually young at heart why thank you.I would not insult those under 25 years old too much for being stupid. They were a huge part of Obamas voting block(and will be again).
Your discussion on the collective vs self interest is a complicated one.Let me say that in my life the most conservative, religious, yes and wealthy folks ive known are the most charitable.Read a few articles on charity. Conservatives vs libs. Speaking of which…..take a look at Obama and Bidon’s charitable givings last 20 years.Next to nothing. And why is that? Now look at Bush and lets say Rush or Hannity or Beck.Massive!Even when they had little. Always the same hypocrisy. Government holding the bread in its hand …oh how fair.Oh how kind and regal they are in their love for their subjects.
Self interest tied to ignorance?Your are so in the wrong country. You sound like you have the intellectual age of commune dwelling youngsters I used to know. Pass the reefer and hand me my birkenstocks. The lecture on egalitarian socialism is about to start. There is a reason why communism and socialism have failed to bring life ,liberty ,and the pursuit of happiness everywhere it has been tried. And why our system(with its many faults)has.I get the feeling you just don’t get it
Woodward
The battle lines on firearms are well known. You can now find data on anything.Your list is transparent to those who understand the problem.Switzerland is the most heavily legally armed place in the world.Crime next to nothing.People carrying personal legal firearms account for almost no crime stats.Let us use PA as a lesson out of your graph.Pa is a heavily armed state. And for the most part very safe. Most(almost all) of the violent crime comes from those areas that are traditional Blue areas. As in the heart of phila itself.Areas awash in ILLEGAL guns. And so People are flowing out of the city.Your stats are flawed in not showing that.It sets up a very skewed view of the problem.
you wrote “Those states like Texas awash in personal firearm permits are by far the safest.”
i responded with the crime rates by state. again, you said “states like Texas,” not cities within states.. and switzerland is utterly irrelevant to the discussion [unless a lot of texans live there.]
the blue new england states have the lowest crime rates, the red southern states have the highest.
not surprisingly, new england, by and large, has the least poverty while the red southern states have the most.
Forbes 2/25/10
“The five states in the worst financial condition–Illinois, New York, Connecticut, California and New Jersey–are all among the bluest of blue states. The five most fiscally fit states are more of a mix. Three–Utah, Nebraska and Texas–boast Republican majorities and two–New Hampshire and Virginia–skew Democratic.”
Yes, they listed Texas as being in good shape.
Two quick things, most of the states in trouble are losing population and all of them send more tax dollars to Washington then they get back.

1. New Jersey ($0.62)
2. Connecticut ($0.64)

4 out of ten of the safest cities are in Texas. The areas in texas that have the highest crime rates are the aberrations that by the way… vote Dem.The serious red areas that have a huge handgun permit rate are amazingly safe.Only crickets to be heard. Out of the top 15 safest states Blue take 8… red 7.Of course as more states go red this election that will change.Who knows the whole dang country could be red .In a city breakdown the huge majority of safest cities are red, leading to the inescapable conclusion that the pollution is carrying a lot of weight as it carries into state profile. The coast is more dangerous on both ends with the inner part of the country the safest.States in trouble are tending blue.No surprise.
California has come around(hate to give arnold credit. And jersey is doing great(christie).
I just cant see you arguing that Dem areas are safer. The only “effect”I find always interesting is the canada bleed over into some northern border states that live conservative but vote left….for now
“4 out of ten of the safest cities are in Texas. In a city breakdown the huge majority of safest cities are red….The coast is more dangerous on both ends.”
not according to forbes… of the top 10 safest cities, 1 is in texas, 3 are in red states…as for the coasts…4 of their top 10 are in california, 1 in oregon, 1 in ny and 1 in hawaii…
10 safest cities. 2010

My list sights Armed robbery, rape, murder, and capital crimes.Do you notice anything about your list?Take a per capita look at most of those cities mentioned. Also NY always appears in low crime stats and Alaska does far worse in those stats.Yet where are you more likely to get robbed?10 thou % more likely in NY.So how can that be?Crime stats also reflect population vs crime.10 people 2 murders=20%.A million people with ten thousand murders does not look so bad if looked at that way.The total breakdown in safest cities is overwhelmingly red.How could it not be so?if you believe the poor, the downtrodden ,underprivileged are voting Dem(for their very survival);and you understand these areas are crime zones due to the oppressive inequality brought on by those dastardly rich……what exactly is it you are arguing?
Is the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS now a cabinet level department in the US Government? And do we still call our government a government that governs? Looks like it is trying to control the mindeset much along the lines of 1984 with mind contrtol, government lies, deption, manipulation and if all else fails lobotomy to keep the masses in check so the elite and corporate foreign and domestic policies stay true and the enslavement of the masses also stays true.
“The total breakdown in safest cities is overwhelmingly red”

Woodward i know the graphs you are using and you know the fault in them.If you are trying to somehow prove that poor urban areas that are overwhelmingly minority and that vote Dem overwhelmingly are somehow safer places to live…….It goes to show more than anything else that many bloggers on fair use a boatload of facts and figures to show just how wrong they are.
“If you are trying to somehow prove that poor urban areas that are overwhelmingly minority and that vote Dem overwhelmingly are somehow safer places to liveâ┚¬Ã‚¦Ãƒ¢Ã¢”š¬Ã‚¦.”
i’m not trying to do that at all…i wouldn’t have listed the highest cirme rates if i was trying to do that…

“neutrality” A great man one time wrote something like “There are no neutrals. There is no such thing as being in 2 sides. You are always either for one or the other.”
