Michael Moore says he won’t appear on Glenn Beck’s or Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News show to promote his new film Capitalism: A Love Story because there’s too much hate speech on those shows. Last night, O’Reilly strengthened Moore’s argument in a segment in which he discussed Michael Moore’s body language with regular guest Tonya Reimer:
O’REILLY: Right. Would it be wrong if I slapped him?
REIMAN: We’ll have to let him judge that.O’REILLY: You just want….
REIMAN: Not a big fan, are we?
O’REILLY: You know, it’s an interesting question. I admire his entrepreneurship. I admire his creativity. But there’s just something about him, you know.
Add to this that Glenn Beck once fantasized about killing Moore with his bare hands (not to mention seeing Dennis Kucinich burned alive), and you have a network whose two leading hosts have expressed a desire to physically attack Moore for expressing beliefs with which they disapprove.
Naturally, O’Reilly whined during the same segment that Moore refused to appear on his show: “I might remind everybody Michael Moore would not come on the program. Even though he’s got a dopey belief to publicize, he’s too afraid.” Maybe with good reason.

Moore is a pretty big guy – O’Reilly is a big pansy blowhard – I bet Moore would bitch-slap that poofter – look how he handled Hannity – most of the the far-right are wimpy whiners that fantasize about killing liberals with their big guns. Go back to your mom’s basement losers!
“Bitch-slap”? “Poofters”?
Bob, aren’t you echoing the same prejudices as these bastards when you use those words? Language is a virus, as the song goes.
Nice Laurie Anderson quote, Doug!
Personally, I don’t want to fantasize, I want some ACTION!
I’d just love a chance to go all Jerry Lawlor on Blech and O’Lielly, bounce their ugly muggs off the turnbuckle, body slam ’em, put ’em in the sleeper hold and drop them on the mat, get the pin (or better yet, make them tap out with a submission hold) shave their fat heads, and pour a few beers over their heads to wake ’em up. So, in the name of all that’s Holy, American, and lawful, I CHALLENGE THESE MEGALOMANIACAL IMBECILES TO A STEEL CAGE DEATH MATCH! A FIGHT TO THE FINISH! IF I WIN, THEY RETIRE! HOW ‘BOUT IT, YOU WORTHLESS MOUTHPIECES OF PSYCHOTIC PROPAGANDA? READY FOR THE BEATIN’ OF YOUR LIVES?!?!
Although I am seriously concerned about the fearful, media hate mongers, I am much more concerned with the media owners who are fanning the hate and division in the name of financial gain. We all know how well advertising works: soda pop, fast food, beauty aids, diet plans, etc. Over time a population weaves the product into its culture. It’s the same for media-driven hate and violence. Our culture encourages profiteering on conflict whether it’s talking heads insulting each other, gory murders and kidnappings in the news or outright war between states, and nations.
It is the natural extension of unregulated capitalism, posing as freedom and patriotism, the very subject Michael Moore exposes in his film.
Why would anyone expect the profiteers to self-regulate, or more specifically, why would anyone expect O’Reilly, Beck or Hannity to NOT hate Moore?
personally I doubt these “violent liberal” posts above are really liberals….the look to me like plants, so the righties can say “see, there are violent liberal bloggers, too”
just one big problem – you can’t be a violent liberal, by definition. There is no such thing. You can’t accuse someone of “psychotic propoganda” or of being a “megalomanical imbecile” and at the same time rant in psychotic threats. it is megalomaniacal to want to control another person with force, so it is internally inconsistent.
being liberal means being tolerant. yes, over the years there have been violent left wing groups who blow things up, but they are of an authoritarian bent not liberal.
check out “Conservatives Without Conscience” by John Dean for a great discussion of the authoritarian mindset that has taken over the Republican party in this country. it is they who are off the ranch in terms of tolerance and respect for others, not the dems.
it just doesn’t work.
Didn’t Al Franken take up O’Reilly offer for a fight and get no response? As I recall Franken was a school wrestler and wasn’r silent.
I wish Moore would go on those shows. I would be laughing for months. Moore and Alan Grayson in 2000 & Twelve.
I find it odd that Michael Moore trashes capitalism when it is that very capitalism that is putting millions in his pockets with all of these leftist films he keeps producing. I also got a good chuckle out of Sean Hannity when he recently had Michael Moore on his show and asked him about this. Of course Moore had no answer…He is a big blowhard that feeld the flames of fear by the left.
The pundits on FOX news have asked anyone to prove them wrong and so far I havent seen anyone go on their shows and prove them wrong….. any of you want to take on that task? Come on big boys, prove them wrong!!
It’s democracy that allows Michael Moore to make his films, not capitalism. Capitalism was nowhere around when he scraped together the money to make his first film. And his goal wasn’t to make money….it was to make a point!
The point is…….capitalism is only as good as the people practicing it, like everything else. We humans can screw anything up. Or rise above our more base instincts and do what’s right, what’s loving — capitalism with a heart, with fair play. That’s what we’re after. That’s Michael’s point. And it’s a good one. It’s undeniable…….to anyone with a heart.
Keith and other “liberals” need to be more inclusive in their ideas of what constitutes a liberal. Its no wonder that the left in this country can’t get its act together to challenge the current “liberal” administration to make it actually liberal. You think the current approach is working? I’m not advocating blowing shit up (well I guess it would depend on the “shit”), but group meetings, and tea parties, and cookie shindigs, and well-behaved marches aren’t going to get things accomplished. And neither are most attempts at legislative action. I hope Ralph Nader is wrong when he says “only the super rich can save us now.” All you “just be peace” people need to wake up and be more like Ralph Nader before our only choice will be to be more like Hayduke. Ward Chuchill may be right when he calls pacifism as a pathology. A little violence and arrests are what gets things moving forward.
Ange MD & Sherri made excellent points. Moore movie’s are meant to enlighten and inform the audience
us ‘ Peasants’ as B o A calls us. Must this his new movie- no matter what ‘side’ you favor- lots of ‘ surprising ‘
info. A well informed electorate gets much better results – leads to much improved’ leadership’ as for me-
I intend to vote out most of the all the rich coots- old that have led us to global disaster.
New / fresh ideas- not the same old stale BS we have endured for 30 years .
All of the above notices did not lead to suggested small, collective actions, right? Lurking behind this preoccupation with analysis is the danger that we not discuss the possible realistic small steps left to us. How about agreeing on taxing advertising: “Lead us not into temptation” (and visit Adbusters.org). And agreeing on using that money to beef up the objectivity and user information of Public Radio (instead of letting Conservatives lead us to believe that the “country is moving to the right”? And agreeing on once again phasing out usury – once a universally forbidden practice? As the children’s story says: “Who’s going to bell the cat”?
We do not need persons like O’Reily or Glen Beck in our society at this time, they are irrational ans illogical also distructive.
ML
With such violent imagery always on call what were these people like as children? I wonder how they treated animals? Caring or tortured to death? I would say the latter. Just the kind of people the rabid radical right want in their ranks.
just saw michael’s great movie and it was worth every cent. i must be very simple, because i do not see how someone who only asks for decency for all citizens can inspire such hatred. the republican echo chamber certainly invests a lot of time & energy into ensuring that the general public views him as a loony crack pot. glen beck? i guess i am fortunate enough to not really no know so much about him beyond that he is shrill and angry, but if he is calling for burning people alive, i guess he is much, much worse than laughable- a real force that is trying to drag civilization back into the Dark Ages. please let’s not disparage other like-minded people for emotional responses-have to first combat systematic and ceaseless campaign of misinformation practiced by corporate media. very appreciated are the observations of dr. lobue above.
Moore’s movie is certainly funny, but unfortunately, it’s funny because he’s such a dufus. The guy has made millions under the very system he’s trashing! It’s fabulous to see the idiots like you that pay HIM your hard earned money to buy a ticket to line his pockets just to tell you that corporations are bad, government is the answer and profits are bad. When’s the last time YOU got a paycheck from a poor man? Socialism certainly works great in Cuba, huh? Are you really that stupid? That’s why we see so many boat people trying to get into that country. Ooops, wait a minute, they BY PASS Cuba to get into the U.S. to enjoy, dare I say it, CAPATALISM!!! The chance to make it here is called FREEDOM. Think…you morons.
