Today FAIR announces its annual P.U.-litzer Prizes, a rundown of some of the corporate media’s stinkiest moments in 2010.

Of course, the corpress deserves a group award for its daily Newspeak, but I think this piece from AP’s Laurie Wellman scores especially high on the fact-free fantasy meter:

A representative slice of the tripe:
“Under Obama, Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., Congress reshaped a recessive economy, health care policy and Wall Street regulation. Both the costs and the government’s reach were mind-boggling, alienating voters reeling under a near 10 percent unemployment rate and raising their distrust of Congress.”
So, voters “reeling under a near 10 percent unemployment rate” were opposed to stimulating the economy? Those who’ve lost their homes were irate over Wall Street regulation?
Of course, folks should’ve been angry about the farcical nature of these acts, but Weller posits them as “mind-boggling” costly gummint overreach in service to a “liberal agenda”, doesn’t she?
Talk about an agenda.
And I’m mad as hell about the health care debacle, and I have plenty of company, not because of “overreach”, but due to the short-arming of flushing even a public option, much less real universal coverage. I had to shell out substantial smack for a minor procedure this year, due to being uninsured, and I’m hardly alone, am I? And of course many are in far worse shape.
So yeah, I have an intense “distrust of Congress”, and the administration, not for the fantasies of “Big Government” Weller conjures here, but for the lies wrapped in platitudes about “hope and change”.
And I have an intense, and empirical, distrust of the corpress for reasons that should be readily apparent from “journalism” like the above.
No media will talk about National HIRING DAY. This is a day that corporations are encouraged to hire new employees. The day suggested is Wednesday JANUARY 19, 2011. Corporations are called on to put patriotism ahead of excess profits and help their country in hard times. Those corporations that cannot hire, are asked to stop firing for that month.
How about the right wing politian (I can’t remember her name, but I think it was Christine O’Donnell) who claimed that President Obama’s trip to India would cost taxpayers 200M a day?
If Glen Beck didn’t make this list, it has no meaning.
My suggestion? One list for so-called “legitimate” media: the MSM. Another for “right-wing-crazy” media like Fox noise. Still another for “Batshit insane” media like Limbaugh, Savage and the like.
Then a category should be added for each list: “Most blatantly consistent pathological liar.” That can just be called “The Pathological Liar Award.” There are deserving candidates for each list.
Why is it that the Wa Po and CNN often pick up “balanced” commentary from the far right nutcase religious foundations like Coral RIdge Ministries Media? Why can’t they just trundle down the street and ask someone with some sense?
Well I guess as head of the largest “corporation”we would have to sight Obama and almost every word he has spoken since he took over.That aside I would like to have a general award for every corporation who even thought of profit as that is anti liberal to its core.
