FAIR’s June 22 action alert, “Nader Left Out of Media Websites,” generated well over a thousand activist letters to mainstream news websites, urging them to include Ralph Nader, the leading third party presidential candidate,in their election coverage. Since then, many of the sites FAIR named in its alert have changed some of their election pages to include Nader.
Below are details on which sites have changed their coverage as of June 30:
CBSNews.com: The “Decision 2000” page (http://cbsnews.cbs.com/now/section/0,1636,250-412,00.shtml) has added Nader to its “Follow the Dollar” section, but he’s still absent from the “Correspondent’s Handbook” (accessible from the main “Decision 2000” page) and “Where They Stand” (http://cbsnews.cbs.com/now/story/0,1597,152014-412,00.shtml) sections.
CNN.com: Nader has been added to CNN’s page of candidates (accessible from their “Election 2000” page, www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/ ), but not to the more substantive “Where They Stand” page: www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/resources/where.they.stand/index.html.
MSNBC.com: MSNBC has added Nader to its “Candidate Profiles,” accessible from the main”Decision 2000″ page: www.msnbc.com/news/POLITICS_Front.asp.
Time.com: Nader is still not listed under the “Time profiles the candidates” section:www.time.com/time/daily/special/election/
New York Times/ABC News “Political Points”: This site now lists Nader in its “Candidates” section (accessible throughthe “Resources” link): http://abcnews.go.com/onair/PoliticalPoints/000628_politicalpoints/

This page lists George Bush, Al Gore and Alan Keyes in its main candidate list, along with a link to an “Independents and 3rd Parties” page which lists the other presidential candidates, including Nader.
As of June 30, the Times‘ “In Their Own Words” section includes Bush and Gore, along with Pat Buchanan, John McCain and Bill Bradley, but not Nader: www10.nytimes.com/library/politics/camp/whouse/wh-itow-index.html.
The Times‘ page on “Policy Positions” includes only Gore and Bush: www10.nytimes.com/library/politics/camp/whouse/policy.html.
Clarification:
FAIR’s June 22 Action Alert, “Nader Left Out of Media Websites,” incorrectly referred to the New York Times‘ “Political Navigator” page as the New York Times/ABC News “Political Points” site. The confusion arose in part because the “Navigator” page is accessed through a link labeled “Political Points” on the New York Times index page.
At the time of our original alert, the Times‘ “Political Navigator” page did not list Nader; it now does, as our June 30 Activism Update noted. The New York Times/ABC News “Political Points” page added Nader to its list of candidates before our alert.
