Election Focus 2020: After CNN’s remarkably substantive and thoughtful town hall on the climate crisis, we wrote that the following debates now had a solid foundation from which to go deeper on climate for a larger audience. Unfortunately, ABC took it as an opportunity to do even less on the crisis.

This sort of consolidation means fewer resources for reporting, usually fewer reporters, and less informed attention to local affairs.
It doesn’t matter so much how many reports corporate media write; if the same people stay at the center of them, the story won’t change.

While federal inaction and even regression on climate is distressing, some state attorneys general are pushing forward for accountability.
It would be easy for even a diligent news consumer to not know that climate change is one of the central factors driving refugees to cross the border, since it’s usually not mentioned at all in most alarmist reports about the so-called “border crisis.”

There’s another conversation about the Green New Deal where people take seriously the need and the possibility to center working people in the fight for the planet.
While the resolution was a radical departure from politics as usual, most corporate media filtered coverage of the “Green New Deal” through the lens of conventional expectations.
