Meet the Press announced that its show this Sunday will feature two conservative Republican guests, Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.) and Gov. Chris Christie (N.J.). Well, that’s only natural, because the GOP did so well on Tuesday, winning back the House…. Right?
Oh wait…. Here’s Meet the Press‘s then-host Tim Russert on November 12, 2006:

Our issues this Sunday: The voters send a loud and clear message to the White House, and give the Democrats control of the House and the Senate for the first time in 12 years. What now for the Republicans? We’ll ask a man who is positioned to seek the GOP nomination for president in 2008: Sen. John McCain of Arizona. What now for the Democrats? We’ll ask a man who lost a Democratic primary, but was just re-elected as an independent: Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut.

I stopped watching “Meet the Press” when I saw David Gregory dancing at Rush Limbaugh’s last (as in most recent) wedding.
I stopped watching “Meet the Press” as soon as David Gregory was appointed. His major qualification for this appointment being that he is the son of ‘Bertina Gregory’ formerly of ABC news. This ‘flatulent oaf’ is not a journalist.
Well, that’s how it works, right? When the Republicans win, we talk to Republicans to get their take, and when Democrats win, we talk to Republicans, to get their take. It’s like the Senate–when the Democrats are in the majority, they defer to the Republicans, and when the Republicans are in the majority, the Democrats defer to the Republicans. It’s the natural way of things in our political world.
P.S.: Meet The Press has always been bad. It’s simply very bad now. Call it the Fox Model of “journalism,” brought to bear on every news-like outfit.
I haven’t watched Meet The Press since Lawrence Spivak hosted it back in the 50’s and early 60’s. Of course, it was a LIVE TV program!
Unlike today’s taped programs with no give and take!
I remember all the Republican blather on NPR before Obama was elected, and then after the election I stupidly expected to hear some Democrats being congratulated. I turned on NPR and guess what I heard? Republicans screaming about Obama. Not one instance of praising Dems or Obama did I hear. NPR is biased, face it, and so is PBS. They are bought and paid for by the corporate elites, and you’re kidding yourself if you think they are impartial.
That “liberal media” just can’t ever seem to live up to its reputation. Time and again, it proves to be biased in quite the opposite direction, if I may temporarily stoop into the left-right framework.
I loved Russ Feingold’s closing sentence to his concession speech: “Forward!” Let’s go, everybody: end war & establish international credibility; single-payer health insurance (or at least a real public option); net neutrality; no corporations-as-people; no more ‘money = speech’.
The Sunday shows have always been awful. A few years ago, Media Matters did a pair of FAIR-style breakdowns of their guest-lists, covering, between the two, nearly 10 years. Right-wing guests always outnumbered the lefties, sometimes by dramatic margins.
This morning I, too, made the decision to quit watching Meet the Press. I have been frustrated with them for years. Yes, even with the “sainted” Tim Russert, who wasn’t in my opinion the hard-examining journalist he is now held up as. I’m sick and tired of R’s being allowed to throw out untruths and political views as generally accepted fact, and never having these inaccuracies corrected or challenged. An example is the now seemingly accepted fact that the people earning over $250K taxable income are the small businesses and “job creators” when in fact this only applies to ~ 1-2% of all small businesses. We have data – why isn’t any of it presented???
THe left is having a harder and harder time selling their wares.IN the arena of ideas(and media)they are damn near bankrupt.
IF your not watching the news….Carbon trading has collapsed.THe hoax that is global warming is going down.Thank God
