Over athis Nation Media Fix blog (a must-read), Greg Mitchell watched Matt Lauer’s NBC interview with George W. Bush, and wasn’t impressed. He writes:
Time after time Bush would offer a whopper and Lauer either said nothing, or expressed sympathy for the poor man who was subjected to such harsh criticism. It went that way, from Bush saying there was “no intelligence” prior to 9/11 about terrorists maybe wanting to fly planes into buildings to stating flatly that lack of regulations had anything to do with the financial meltdown.
Bush said he had zero doubts about the WMD intelligence on Iraq, not one–and Lauer eagerly pointed out (doing his Judy Miller impersonation) that George Tenet called it a “slam dunk.” Bush said posing in front of the window when flying over New Orleans was a mistake but Lauer pointed to local officials who had not done enough.
I was thinking the same thing reading USA Today‘s Bush piece this morning, where we learn this:
He smiles and laughs readily. He calls a photographer he’s just met “darlin’.” He’s not in a hurry to end the interview and there’s no hint of annoyance, even when he’s asked how he copes with the ridicule that hasn’t abated much since he left office.
Bushdoesn’t get annoyed when he’saskedabouthow he “copes” with all the”ridicule.”Well that’s a relief.

Yeah, I sure hope W can cope with ‘all the ridicule’, he’s had it SOOOOooo ‘tough’ – – – not like those ~ 1M dead Iraqis, 4000+ dead US soldiers, 10’s of thousands of dead Afghanis, the 3000+ dead victims of 9/11 who never had to put up with the awful things that people (like that horrible Kanye West) can say! Words hurt! Not that bombs/mortars/50 caliber bullets/disease (brought on by destroyed water-treatment plants and embargoes)/etc don’t have their own special nuances, but that’s not like the horror of some blogger or reporter disliking somebody!
But seriously, Bush has told so many lies that he doesn’t even know what the truth is anymore — it’s just one of the many scenarios he’s created in his mind, with no special priority. And let’s have a big hand for the MSM, without whom all this wouldn’t have been possible!
I think Pres.Bush did an excellent job in keeping us all safe after 911…if we had a candy butt…where would we be? I think we fail to forget about these terrorists are not nice upstanding people and are out to harm us physically as well as financially hurting our country. Our military proudly serve our country and I’m sure are tired of everyone complaining about the loss of life because they know to serve our country for peace means to be willing to sacrifice themselves. So, I’m proud of our ex president & our military serving us to keep us free!
Spoken like a true softball lover, Billie! Um, would have been “excellent” if Bush had bothered to keep us safe BEFORE 9-11, rather than vacationing in Texas every other week while breezily ignoring a crystal clear PDM that screamed that Bin Laden intended to attack in the US. The thing about the services of the military is that you only use them when you absolutely have to because, yes, they can die — instead, Bush used them to attack a country that upset his daddy and had NOTHING to do with 9-11, but everything to do with his greedy interest in the oil industry. The attack on Iraq has had nothing to do with keeping us free. Rather, it’s needlessly killed and maimed millions (see above), destroyed our economy, and left us with a generation of traumatized vets and their families who will never recover completely. Get a clue, Billie.
Matt Lauer’s NBC interview with George W. Bush, what a joke.
I agree with soulscompanion and billie need to get his facts straight.
This current war is a disgrace as was Iraq. I wish Obama would get us out of Afghanistan but I doubt he ever will.
It’s the casualness with which W tells lies that unnerves me; he knows he can say anything, and the turds in the “press” will buy it. That explains his not-very-well hidden contempt for people like Lauer. To see a toadying whore like Matt Lauer lick Dubya’s shoe-tops–well, that’s just low comedy, for us and Dubya. How easy it is! How simply wonderful to put it over on folks and not worry, ever, about consequences in this life. Wouldn’t it be exciting to see, just once, someone with balls just start hurling insults, like old shoes, at that sanctimonious lunatic Bush?
P.S.: Uh, soulscampanion? It’s pretty clear that the hapless billie has been lost to our great democracy–you know, the one in which Thomas Jefferson once strongly advised us to be able to tell the difference between our friends and our enemies. billie’s the kind of person who would throw herself down into the path of the master’s carriage (or, in this case, Dubya’s speeding pickup truck) to prevent any mud from splashing up onto the great man’s waistcoat. A life, surrendered selflessly, so that one might stay in the muck, where one belongs, whilst the master lives recklessly on, carelessly running over sycophants and innocent souls alike. Semper Fi billie, Semper Fi!
P.S.: If you’re a man, billie, my apologies. On second thought, nevermind.
Bush has had his share of softball journalism in his time, though in my humble opinion nothing is akin to what Obama has enjoyed. That aside- it is refreshing to have a president speaking off the cuff(and teleprompter)…..and annoying as hell he wont say a word about how things are being run now.Lets face it- he has a golf date with Obama and Clinton and Dad in about two years. And so it goes
michael e-Obama has had a lack of critical attention on some issues (the wars, saving bankers), but I would have been happy to see a media as critical of Bush’s budgets as of Obama’s, of Bush’s signature healthcare plan as of Obama’s, as critical of Bush’s economic accomplishments as of Obama’s. Do not mistake me, I want everyone held to the fire, but Obama has been dogged by silly issues (pursuing a moderate Republican agenda but accused of socialism/ communism/ fascism/ not being a citizen/ not being a Christian/ being a Muslim/ hating white people/ being a racist, etc.
What tishado said. There’s plenty of room to critique any President on the issues, but the next time the right-wing noise machine and its various wholly-owned and -operated subsidiaries (Foxpac, Rush Limbaugh, the Republican Party etc.) critiques President Obama on the issues will be the first, and if it ever happens, I’ll be sure to express my surprise to my pet flying pig.
I can’t help but remember what Harry Truman said about Nixon: that he would talk out of both sides of his mouth and lie out of both sides. Could have been talking about GWB….
Oudiva I dont disagree with you.Just tag on the Obama is even a bigger liar and im with ya.Tishado…Obama’s past was hidden and swept under the carpet. He would never be president otherwise. The press is turning on him now because his incompetence is so monsterous.Austin….What can I say but all thanks to those who daily expose and hamper Obamas designs.
@Michael E. – Tell me what exactly is hidden about Obama’s past. Please do – because I want to know. So far, I know more about him than I know about GWB – or at least what GWB will admit. I think the real problem with Obama is that he is a black man – and that ha sbeen the problem here for the Repugnicans all along.
Calling him a blue gum, darkie and other names have been the tactics that they have used and making up claims of monstrosity without stating one single thing to back it up is the typical yellow strip that I see running rampant in the right wing idiot brigade. Why not just wear you hooded bed-sheet and get those flaming crosses started and start calling for lynch mobs again?
That’s what you really want Michael E. You may fool others, but not me. I’ve lived around people like you and know you for you are.
Ok Chuck lets start small.Find me his grades. All records are sealed. His papers….Publishings in college. All sealed.A first. All we know is he did poorly in Occidental.Which by the way makes it impossible to go to Harvard.IMPOSSIBLE!So you find me his grades as a start.I have a ton of things but just find that.Just his grades from pre school up.Hint…dont waste your time, they are in a lockbox. We can guess he pulled it together in Harvard once he somehow got in.That is about all we know.
Harvard is pass fail though we gather he did well in the political aspects of the school(big surprise).
And don’t play that racist crap my way.You belong to a party that just had 97% of its black base vote for a like skin toned man in the greatest show of racism since the 1950s.A party that plays the race card in a massively sickening way(you just did it yourself).A party that compartmentalizes every race creed and color for voter expoitation.
P.s Blue gum????What the hell is that?Darkie?Where in the hell do you come by this nonsense?Burning crosses?Hoods?Im going to prescribe you a sedative Chuck. Either that or relax with a nice cup of tea and some soothing music.Lets get that BP down. And find me his grades!
Gore got 90% of the black vote in 2000, Kerry got 89%. Obama got 95% in 08. In other words, the only change was that half on all Africian American REPUBLICAN voters switched parties last time around. To call this minor shift “the greatest show of racism since the 1950s,” is beyond hopeless.
Conservatives never mention that President Obama got 18% of the white vote in Louisiana, 13% in Mississippi and 10% in Alabama, or that the teabaggers are 99% white.
