The U.S. has drawnup a new round of proposed sanctions against Iran that they intend to present before the U.N. Security Council. Thisis obviouslya rebuke of Brazil and Turkey for negotiating their own deal with Iran. The Washington Post refers to the countriesas “two junior Security Council members” that ” swooped in with their own deal with Iran to forestall new penalties on the Islamic republic.”
Brazil and Turkey are unsurprisingly upset at the U.S. move, and thePost tells us (5/19/10) that this reaction is of some concern:
The reaction signified potential difficulties ahead in winning unanimous approval for the resolution. Three previous sanctions resolutions on Iran were approved without any “no” votes–usually, a draft agreement among the five permanent members of the council faces little opposition from the 10 rotating members–and anything less than that would represent a fracturing of international unity on Iran.
“International unity” means the small group of powerful nations that want to pursue sanctions against Iran. What the rest of the world actually thinks about all of this is apparently irrelevant.

Until Israel is subjected to the SAME rules, regulations and laws of the NNPT, which it is NOT a member but Iran is, the United States and rest of the world are hypocrits.
No one can answer, with honesty, WHY does Israel need nuclear weapons?
i am slowly coming to beleive that true peace in the world will only come about when every country in the world has a nuclear arsenal and a reliable delivery system. the present arrangement is utterly rediculous. if the US(and britain, france, china et al.) needs them then which country doen’t after all it is more likely that the invading country will be you know who…

It seems that WE- the U.S.- should be willing to take our cues from allies in the neighborhood. We maintain bases in Turkey, at their pleasure (one hopes)… and they share a border- and culture- with Iran. Thank goodness for the willingness to be even-handed that our “junior members” are willing to demonstrate! ^..^
