Washington Post reporter Nia-Malika Henderson reports today (1/3/12) that Republican candidate Ron Paul really says some weird things out on the campaign trail. His appearances start out normal…
And then, for the next 45 minutes or so, he outlines a view of the world so bleak it would make Chicken Little sound like an optimist.
Now, to be fair, some of what he says is more than a little troubling. Massive federal budget cuts could cause some people to suffer, he explains, but “they should have to suffer.”
The piece closes on this note:
There is one radical change Paul likes: the Internet.
“Fortunately we’re able to get some information out, and a lot of what we’ve done in our campaign makes use of the Internet,” Paul said at a rally in Des Moines.
As might be expected, however, Paul anticipates a problem or two on that front as well.
“But also,” he went on to say, “there’s an attack on the Internet now.”
The article ends there, as if this idea is self-evidently absurd. I mean, really, what on Earth is this guy talking about….

This article bleeds ignorance. I suggest you wake up.
I once thought that journalism was a noble profession… But not any more.
This article has the journalism pronouncement of a middle school student. The referenced article emphasizes emphatic support based on informed judgement; however, the distortion above says otherwise.
I don’t get it? I think Peter Hart is showing that Nia-Malika doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
How about addressing other disinfo in her article, though, ie:
Uh, the poor thing…Doesn’t she realize that he’s talking about the Banks, who have received OUR tax money in the form of bailouts?
Wow they should sell your ridiculousness on supermarket line up stand beside the other nonesense rags. Amazing to watch a once remarkable paper go the way of infotainment -watch out Murdoch here comes the times.
Ron Paul was referencing the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) when he says, “there’s an attack on the Internet now.” He just didn’t elaborate at the time.
Agree with Cameron. And rather than criticize Paul, of whom I am not a supporter, I’d say it’s much more telling of the article FAIR exposes and its author. It fascinating how much the press focuses on Paul’s “nuttiness” than actually addressing some of the real positions he stands for. Then again character assassination is much more fun and sells papers, especially because that tactic doesn’t require a seriously thinking readership.
Whats nutty is to still believe in the Democratic or Republican Party. Ron Paul knows the only way people will get “the real” news is on the internet, not main stream media. SOPA is a real and present danger to a free internet with unrestricted access to information. Ron Paul gets it.
Cameron, Terrence, Peter Hart is mocking the Washington Post article, not Ron Paul. See the link at the end of Peter’s post.
Most of the previous comments posted just before this one are completely stupid and show (1) an inability to follow a story and (2) a craven and cowardly paranoia worthy of members of the phoney religion called Scientology.
Get lost, you pack of jerkoffs, pay your fair share of taxes, and stop whining all the time!
LLL
My goodness, what a disturbing bunch of comments! How come no one mentioned Ron Paul’s comment “some may suffer, but they should have to suffer”. This is a stupendously cruel comment by our typically callous billionaire. Just too bad if you are the one to suffer. Where is the caring for others? Ron Paul has a history of racist and antisemitic remarks made in many writings under his name that he has never refuted or apologized for. Is this really the kind of person you feel is fit to govern the United States of America – all 350, 000,000 of us? My God, what kind of people are you that sees fit to make such comments..
Wow the article sucked, but the comments are…..surprising.I am very surprised that if not fans, nine out of ten here are cutting Dr Paul some slack.I expected a full court press against him.Ah Ron Paul.He is the family member that comes to dinner and mentions your house needs a new coat of paint. You should replace those window’s..Why are you getting fat?Do you still have that lowly position in that horrible company? You should really get all new furniture so the place isn’t such an eye sore.He is right about most things he says but……When is he leaving? Not a good template for a president
Seriously, michael e, what do you have against the space key?
Dr. Ron Paul is showing us the cruel side of Libertarianism. The Social Darwinist view that it is stronger dog eats the weaker. (Hint: altruism is considered a weakness. You must think like a psychopath in order to get ahead in their version of society.) Not exactly science but is the secular variant of the”Blessed over the Cursed by God”
Well Jamie………………..I think it goes back to sister Mary Margaret(Notre dame nun). She used to make us all write very small(and close together)so as not to use so much paper. She was the first tree hugging environmentalist I ever met.Save trees, and save children was her mantra. She took her entire class to an anti abortion rally(really bad form). We all got buttons that said “life”.And we planted trees in the park. Her in her habit ,shovel in hand.So I guess to answer you question …tight writing, abortion, and ginko trees.
And you thought I wasn’t gonna answer you.
Well done michael e, you managed to answer Jamie without answering! Since we aren’t writing on paper, the bulk of your reply is meaningless. How did you do on reading comprehension? On dodging the question? Trees are very important. More important than humans. So we need to control our reproduction. Because if not the usual outcome will naturally happen. Starvation, collapse of population then starting again to do it over again. And we have the added brain to not do that stupid thing.
There is nothing nutty about Ron Paul. He comes from a serious tradition that goes back a long way in the US. It is telling that the MSM is so out of it that they refuse to engage with that tradition in any serious way. His views are outside of the beltway mainstream but should be seriously engaged. I will have to say that the left in general has done a much better job of identifying where Paul comes from and critically engaging him than even the Republican-oriented media, which seem to want him to just go away. Whether our tactical ally or implacable foe, he needs to be taken very seriously, indeed.
Ron Paul is refreshing in that he will tell you you are fat when everyone else avoids the unpleasant truth. He tells the truth and it sounds like raving lunacy to the highly-conditioned consumers who have been spoon-fed on a diet of the true raving lunacy that oozes out of the vile and reprehensible Fox News. Libertarianism sounds good on first blush because it sounds so rugged and tough-minded. When it actually comes time to push grandma onto the iceberg and wave bye-bye it loses some of the macho lustre that steroid-fuelled testosterone junkies love so much. I like truth. I like accountability. I like the middle class. I like Ron Paul but, I wouldn’t necessarily want him for president. Michael E isn’t worried about saving trees, he’s worried about saving pixels. Who can even begin to estimate how many billions of unburned phosphors Michael E alone is responsible for? I applaud you sir.
I think Ron paul is talking about SOPA. If that’s the case, he’s right .. “the internet is under attack” – by congress.
