A meeting of the minds between NBC host Chris Matthews and Washington Post columnist David Ignatius (Chris Matthews Show, 11/29/09):
IGNATIUS: The long period of analysis, very deliberative, robs this of passion. This is–he was going to be a wartime president now, and he has to sell the country on the idea that our young men and women are going to go there, fight and get killed.
MITCHELL: Yes.
IGNATIUS: And, you know, I think this, you know, this is not going to….
MATTHEWS: So too much Chamberlain, not enough Churchill.
IGNATIUS: Well, too much–too much college professor.

Yes, we should all just react immediately to whatever life throws at us, without forethought or analysis or any consideration of the pitfalls which might befall a unthinking decision:
So when the guy makes us angry by cutting us off in traffic, we should just ram his car with ours, or pull him over and shoot him. Wasting time deciding on a course of action is the hallmark of a pussy, or worse, and educated pussy! Just react viscerally, it’s so much more pro-American! Ask yourself “What would Bruce Willis or Scwartzenegger do?”
When one’s spouse disagrees with us, we should slap him/her around with a golf club until they agree to do things our way. Alternatively, one could lock them in the basement and deprive them of food until they “decide to agree”. People who dawdle waiting for others to “come around” to their way of thinking, are just wasting precious time! Decisions cannot wait!
When the boss ruins your weekend by requiring you to work overtime doing his work, so that he can go out golfing with the executive vice-president, you should just strangle him with his own tie, burn his place of business to the ground, and mail pipe-bombs to all the company’s board members. Business moves at the speed of light, you know, and the Fortune 500 can’t be held back by “ditherers” who stupidly profess to wanting to have “a life” when there’s money to be made, dammit!
JayDee, killing a boss who’s screwing up your life so he can have fun with his rich buddies is . . well . . .not a completely wrong idea. Especially if you use his own tie. The pipe-bombs to all the board members — well, I agree with you that that might be just a little over the top.
I’m kidding, of course (more or less). And I agree with what your really saying. I tired of the dolts of the MSM articulating this macho crap. There’s no “passion” in his decision? What in hell does that mean, other than that David Ignatius is as blithering an idiot as Chris Matthews. I’m ashamed of American “news” people. Most of them, to quote Henry Wallace, are “not worth a bucket of warm piss.”
If you’re watching Chris Matthews you’re part of the problem … you don’t have to be ashamed, just hit your remote
P.S. John Nance Garner told Lyndon Johnson in 1960 the vice-presidency was “not worth a warm bucket of piss” and he might have had Vice President Henry Wallace in mind
