From Sunday’s Washington Post (11/28/10):
FBI Foils Elaborate Bomb Plot in Oregon
Given the circumstances of this particular case (covered in great detail by Glenn Greenwald), I think the Post meant either “FBI Concocts Elaborate Bomb Plot in Oregon” or”FBI Foils Its Own Elaborate Bomb Plot in Oregon.”Even the Post‘s own account explained in the lead thatthis was “a sting in which the FBI worked extensively with the man and assembled the fake bomb that he twice tried to detonate Friday night.”

Maybe, FBI ensnares another in concocted bomb plot!
I would change “man” to “teenager” in that alternate heading.
The FBI itself should be investigated for involving minors in criminal plots.
I have often advocated a law-enforcement model in dealing with terrorism, but, if this is it, maybe we should use someone else’s law enforcement agencies to deal with terrorism.
Don’t forget that it is way easier to set up and entrap criminals, terrorists, internet sex predators, etc., by creating them yourselves than actually catching self-established, practicing ones.
How about “FBI FOISTS elaborate bomb plot to thwart teenager who might, at some later date, if the perfect opportunity presented itself, potentially become involved in an actual terrorist plot”. Na, too long. Since it was his dad that flipped the kid, maybe they could have just bugged his computer and waited to see if he outgrew his anger or, at some point in time, acted on it on his own. That way the FBI might have been able to nab him and possibly some other actual terrorists in an actual terrorist attempt (what a concept). All they have actually done with this charade is prove that properly nurtured, anger can somtimes be manipulated to make ignorant people act contrary to their own best interests. Oh wait…. can you say Southern Strategy?
Southern strategy????
So basically don’t trust the FBI- the judicial process,or expanding that….. The US government, the military, and give the benefit of the doubt to this little twisted crud?Or blame US policy?Sure i want all the “Ts” crossed and “Is” dotted according to the law,but for now im going the other way .Show me a guy willing to explode a bomb on a crowded New York Xmas shopping street and I will show you a guy that needs a bullet between his mad dog eyes. And no i don’t give a hoot about his sob story life.Night funnyman
Jaaaeeeessssuuuuuus. He can’t even remember the State, let alone the City. It’s Portland, dumbshit, and not Main. Portland Oregon. Yea, Mikey. the southern Strategy. You seem to know nothing about it. The reason could be that you’re a Product of it and none of the Products know they are (Products). Google Southern Strategy, Mikey, and you may learn why you are what you are. The corporatists repubs, after Civil Rights swept through the South, telling the gap-toothed fundamentalists (and other ignorant folk) that they were racist, just like them, and fundamentalist, just like them, and afraid the black booted international thugs at the UN were going to take away their guns and impose God Hating Communism and the Republicans would stop that. And Democrats are baby killers and the Republicans would stop that (if the gap-tooth fundamentalist southerners would murder the service providers). And they hated any alternate lifestyles, just like them. And so they swept the South. In the beginning they even bragged about what they had done. Then they told the Product that Social Programs were bad because they had the word “social” in them, and Education was bad because teachers belonged to “unions” and wanted to teach Eviluton and kill God, and Corporations were good and since Repubs were just like southerners and all of them better Americans, southerners should be just like republicans and quit thinking about us and start thinking about themselves and how good Corporations and rich people. are. Then they realized there are gap-tooth fundamentalists (and other ignnorant folk) all over the rural states and even in the Northern cities, as they had migrated from the rural areas. And the product did well (at least they thought they were doing well, and if they weren’t it was the fault of the God Hating, Communist, gay, baby murdering, “N” loving, gun stealin’ DEMOCRATS!). And the Corporations did VERY well. Then the Corporations looked beyond America’s shores and seeing new ways to do even better, moved their operations and the Product’s jobs to where they could prosper even more and buy bigger yachts and better Villas all over the world. America didn’t matter to them at all so they spent all the money Americans had invested, and more, got the Product to bail them out, and, as a parting gesture, stole their homes. Of course some of the Product did very well, playing the game and cronying up to the cons and joining them if they figured it all out. Most of the gap-toothed fundamentalists (and other ignnorant folk) got sorta smart and took over the Corporate started Tea Party as they realized some of the lie and that the whole thing is falling apart. Too little, too late, I’m afraid. The Corporatists are about done with us now, and will fly off into the sunset to find another Product in another land. Will you be joining them, Mikey? I certainly hope so, cause there’s a whole different Product here, and we know what we are, Americans, and we’re gonna rebuild this country, shithead, all of us, TOGETHER, and we’re gonna keep our Army, Navy, Air force and nukes and come after you (if your new Product doesn’t get to you first when they figure out you’re a bunch of White Supremacists. Those Chinese and Indians are smarter than you think). But you never were very good at giving credit to anyone but your selves.
Wow natuaralist1….. so this is what you believe? You have a lot eating away at you my friend.I don’t know you- and cant fathom what soil grew such a fine crop of hatred and harangue. But I recognize it.It is modern day liberalism . You are a very good speaker for it. Maybe even a poster child.I commend your outspoken verification of your/their beliefs. And i recommend-that all of America hear your words. We need this kind of distinction to help us see clearly the sides of the coin, and help us in the important choices we must make.
I will start digging my bunker just in case you get those nukes.Till then hope your holiday season brings you a bit more happiness.
The Greenwald article is a must read. Virtually every element of this “plot” was created by the FBI. And the key “conversation” that “proves” the “bomber’s” intention? Somehow the recording doesn’t exist. Imagine that.
“The FBI successfully thwarts its own Terrorist plot.” :

The charges may be at least “artfully assisted” by the government, but you can never pove what might have happened if??
This indeterminate ending makes it possible to get silly convictions of plots that might never have been consummated. The people doing the recoeding knows what sells to a jury, but it is unfair to the defendant. I don’t ffel more secure if this poor guy who has a beef with American foreign policy goes to jail. But that’s our system and the federal appeals courts are afraid to assert constitutionasl rights above anti-terrorism. A sad state of affairs.

In an Irvine, California case, Craig Monteilh’s mission as an FBI informant backfired. Muslims were so alarmed by his talk of violent jihad that they obtained a restraining order against him.
He had helped build a terrorism-related case against a mosque member, but that also collapsed. The Justice Department recently took the extraordinary step of dropping charges against the worshiper, who Monteilh had caught on tape agreeing to blow up buildings, law enforcement officials said. Prosecutors had portrayed the man as a dire threat.
Compounding the damage, Monteilh has gone public, revealing secret FBI methods and charging that his “handlers” trained him to entrap Muslims as he infiltrated their mosques, homes and businesses. He is now suing the FBI.
Officials declined to comment on specific details of Monteilh’s tale but confirm that he was a paid FBI informant.
