This week on CounterSpin: Despite the impact it would have on millions of people and the planet, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), like all such agreements, was being negotiated in secret. That is, until Greenpeace Netherlands released classified documents revealing elements of the deal the EU and the US were moving merrily toward — now some say the pact may be scuttled. What’s in those documents? We’ll hear from Karen Hansen-Kuhn of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.

Also on the show: What was called possibly the biggest gang raid in New York history, with involvement by Homeland Security, the FBI and the BATF, drove similarly sweeping media coverage. A Daily News headline was typical, describing those arrested as “Bronx Gang Members Responsible for Nine Years of Murders and Drug-Dealing.” No “allegedly,” no “police say,” and no time, really, to hear from the community that was set upon in the pre-dawn by agents in military gear with helicopters overhead. Josmar Trujillo is a writer and organizer; he addresses the idea of police raids as a response to violence and why corporate media are so drawn to it. We’ll hear from him on that.

As the upper-half of society is the root cause of crime, as they hoard all the wealth, the perfect solution is for wages to be adjusted so that the impoverished lower-half owns a fourth of the land and wealth.
Always important reporting Janine, done with Socratic deftness! One has to shield their eyes at this moment under the imperious wisdom of one of President Clinton’s Treasury secretaries, Lawrence Summers; whom subsequent to his largeseness’s residency at Treasury, and through the corporate revolving door to Dean at Harvard, announced there with all seriousness that “women weren’t capable of the work men were in mathematics and the sciences.” And was promptly drummed out of that post, only to be resurrected as President Obama’s economics mentor. Democracy is truly schpecial.
