In an article headlined “The NY Times Is Normalizing Fascism by Running Marine Le Pen’s Column,” AlterNet‘s Sarah Lazare (6/28/16) cited FAIR’s Jim Naureckas on the Times publishing an op-ed by the far-right French leader:
“There’s always a question of who gets a place at the table to be part of the discussion,” Jim Naureckas, editor of Extra!, the magazine of Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting, told AlterNet. “And the people who are chosen to be invited to the New York Times op-ed page are the people designated by the media establishment as worth hearing and having their ideas taken seriously.”
“When you have the leader of a neo-fascist party given that platform,” Naureckas continued, “they really are opening up political space to people who have ideologies that one would have thought were permanently put outside the realm of acceptable opinion.”
There is one thing I feel, for sure that if Trump wins the election, I, personally will blame the media for all the free coverage and backing of his candidacy for 1 whole year. If not for the media, that nut case would have been out after the 1st debate. They played right along with him for that whole year for no other reason than to make money. “Trump is not good for the country but he’s great for our ratings”. WHO SAID THAT I WONDER.
This is a least the second time Marine Le Pen has scribed at essay for the NY Times’ op-ed page.
