“The reason there is an epidemic of disrespect in America is mainly because of the public school system”–says the guy who makes on-air jokes about beating up, even “decapitating” his political foes.
That’s right, Bill O’Reilly– whose network is known for on-air fantasies about murdering public figures, jokes about the assassination of the president, and is the only network named by more than one spree killer as having helped to inspire their murderous designs–is worried that the country is becoming too disrespectful. (See: “Fox News: The No. 1 Name in Murder Fantasies,” for all citations.)
Apparently O’Reilly’s declaration that we are in the clutches of an epidemic of disrespect is based on two things that appeared before his eyes: a viral video of a young woman mouthing off to a Florida judge and getting a 30-day contempt sentence; and the New York public school system’s new “discipline code,” which keeps students who commit “low-level infractions” in class longer before suspending or expelling them, a notion that outrages O’Reilly:
As a former teacher, I know if the system allows students to curse out teachers in front of other students, all discipline breaks down. By the way, that’s one of the reasons I send my kids to Catholic school in New York State.
I don’t know if schools could be to blame, but should, heaven forbid, anyone in O’Reilly’s family come down with the disrespect bug, I’d be prone to look for the source a little closer to home.

Fox News is all about producing lies to advance its owner’s and contributors’ extremist right-wing agenda. If this practice of on-air lying doesn’t show disrespect for the First Amendment and the network viewers, what else does?
Billo always carts out his teaching credentials but when did he teach? 1971 for only a couple years?
I guess Mr. Rendell didn’t read Triple Murder Suspect Christopher Dorner’s Uncensored ‘Kill’ Manifesto? Mr. Dorner mentions MSNBC & CNN personnel. I guess since he didn’t say THEY inspired me to go on my killing spree, you made the above comment limited to Fox News “….is the only network named by more than one spree killer as having helped to inspire their murderous designs.”
Here is the Uncensored Manifesto: http://hinterlandgazette.com/tag/christopher-dorners-uncensored-manifesto
Trying being less bias Mr. Rendell!
He talks about disrespect, then in his very next breath he’s “disrespecting” our President of the United States…..he’s one who’s promoting the disrespect!
My sister teaches in the Boise, Idaho, School District. And my mother is a retired elementary school principal in the same district. I really resent your botcha smear of educators.
Fox news has definitely won the international mendacity sweepstakes. Disrespect for truth and reasoned discourse is its mantra.
Bill has no credentials as a newsman. He and we need to stop pretending that he’s a journalist. He doesn’t play by news rules. He is the far-right’s broadcast polemicist, albeit with minimal research skills and less attractive than Anne Coulter.
The clue here is the missing words. Right after the word “respect”, if you watch really carefully, O’Reilly always mutters quickly under his breath “for power and authority”. To O’Reilly and the extreme right, that’s the primary function of the population: to submit to the unquestionable rule of the Masters of the Universe. Thus, any deviation from complete subservience and passivity on the part of the general population (never O’Reilly or the elites, of course–they can do whatever they want) forces O’Reilly out to the rooftops to scream and stomp and shake his fists about “the epidemic of disrespect”.
Which kind of explains why other powerful figures, like Obama, don’t have too much of a problem with O’Reilly or Fox–they basically share the same values. The liberals only cringe when the reactionaries are too honest about their values. You know, you’ve got to obscure things a bit, make obedience and passivity and elite rule sound more palatable, talk about human rights and freedom and democracy here and there–but with exactly the same principles in place. Much more effective.
A bit off-topic there, C-Jean. Last time I checked, Mr. Dorner isn’t a highly paid ignorant asshole on a widely viewed propaganda network.
C-Jean, if your going to hate, try harder.
You only mentioned one man and and admitted he said they didnt inspire.
But even so, The writer said more than 1, and you only mentioned one, meaning you didnt counter his claim either way.
Maybe you should think before you write or go hate somewhere else.
Come on–why such a harsh reaction to C-Jean pointing out a basic fact? I read Dorner’s manifesto, too, and he not only lauds praise upon major liberal figures in the media, but also upon many of the most respected political and business figures–e.g., Powell, Clinton, Obama, Toobin, and so on. (And, to be fair, Chris Christie, George W. Bush, and dozens of others, too.)
Why is it so surprising that people who resort to shocking violence can like Fox just as much as they can like MSNBC? They’re all presenting the same picture of the world–some just in a more brazen and callous fashion than others.
It’s all a sign of the times. It’s always darkest before the calm, eh,dawn..
to C-jean and anyone else. I need clarification. I’m not feigning ignorance as I can’t keep up with all the news. The statements made on Fox are made by Fox employees or Fox-sympathetic hosts that Fox often uses. The statement by Dorner is of a fugitive that has been repeated by many media. I’m not clear what the issue is.
Read Steven Rendalls second paragraph. He starts out by stating his idiotic opinion about FOX news,You need read no further.Just a stupid man printing stupid things.
