This week: ABC World News prepared viewers for the Senate report on CIA torture…by warning that its publication could harm Americans. Plus TV news covers the torture report by giving a platform to torture advocates. And a pundit who was dead wrong about the Iraq War shares his thoughts about the need for Rolling Stone to do better factchecking.
Watch:

Those who authorized and participated in torture claim they did so to save lives. Unfortunately, that’s the exact reason German Nazis tortured suspected spies, and Japanese militarists tortured US POWs. We prosecuted them and hanged some of them. Seventy years later our officials use the same excuse. Should we pay reparations to Germany and Japan for imprisoning and hanging their citizens? Or, should we say we are better than that and prosecute them as the Constitution requires? Or, we say that America is above the law? I think we will go with the later. But as John Ashcroft said, “History will judge us harshly.”
Well said Peter. However, I feel as if those of us engaging in self-analysis and critical thinking are becoming fewer. The masses seem to only listen to the loudest, most outraged, or shrillest voice and the words that come from that voice become the truth. Thus, Hayden’s words and spin become the reality, and the report is no more than conjecture. I’m glad you point out the obvious absurdity. I fear that to most it is not so obvious.
What’s up to every one, the contents present at this web site are in fact amazing for people knowledge, well, keep up the good work fellows.
And speaking of equal time for torturers, on Sunday we get Despicable Dick on NBC’s Meet the Press. Barf bag anyone?
