Fox News (7/19/22)
This week on CounterSpin: In May of this year, a white supremacist killed ten people in Buffalo, New York. He made clear that he wanted to kill Black people, because he believes there is a plot, run by Jews, to “replace” white people with Black and brown people. News media had an opportunity then to deeply interrogate the obvious spurs for the horrific act, including of course the media outlets and pundits and politicians who repeatedly invoke this white replacement idea, but it didn’t really happen.
The Washington Post offered an inane tweet about how Biden “ran for president pledging to ‘restore the soul of America.’ But a racist massacre raises questions about that promise.”
CounterSpin spoke at the time about the issues we hoped more media would be exploring, with Matt Gertz, senior fellow at Media Matters for America, who has been following Fox News and Tucker Carlson, and their impact on US politics, for years.

And we spoke also with Eric K. Ward, senior fellow at Southern Poverty Law Center and executive director at Western States Center, about ways forward.

We hear these conversations again this week.
Plus Janine Jackson takes a quick look at recent press coverage of the assassination of Darya Durgina.

In “Know Your History: Jesus Was Black and So Was Cleopatra” Paul Mooney said the quiet part out loud:
“You’ve got to know your history, you’ve got to know who we are, you have-to-know! See, it came on the History Channel ‘The Real Eve,’ if you missed it, it won’t be rerunning. They dNa’d every race on this planet, it’s not up for discussion, it’s what those white folks did; and that white man that invented dNa he’s dead somewhere in the desert! Because dNa was supposed to put ni__as in jail not release them.Been many ni__as sent home because of dNa. They killed that white man, they beat his ass and left him in the desert. ‘Yeah, invent this!’ But anyway. No, they dNa’d and they traced it back to one black woman in Africa, she is the mother of civilization. Unless you are Frankenstein or a clone, she’s ya god damn momma. They did a whole thing, they traced all of it. It took (white people come from us) it took ni__as 25 thousand years to turn white. So white people had to go, they had to come home, they had to go to Africa. They actually have been hating themselves all this time, cuz see nobody hates like family. There’s not a person in this room, I don’t care – white or black – that don’t have ni__a blood. Because of slavery, it’s the truth, it’s because of fu__ing slavery. It’s the way it is.”
I don’t see it as racist, just an acknowledgment that politicians (in this case Democrats) find it easier to poach new votes rather than do the work of making lives better for existing U.S. residents. Tucker always phrases it that way.
If someone points to charts and says … ‘oh no, whites are going to be in a minority’, yes, those people are being racist but Tucker includes African Americans and earlier waves of assimilated Latinos as being on the short end of the stick.
(btw I do not agree w/a lot of things Carlson says, I am just sticking to this one topic)
I don’t see it as racist…
