“Everyone has the right to determine for themselves whether and when to have children, whether and when to become pregnant. And to maintain a healthy sex life.”

The media’s focus on Scott Pruitt’s dizzying array of personal scandals obscures his absolute contempt for his agency’s stated mission: environmental protection.

Corporate media have routinely given platforms to those who claim that Trump’s election and his steady (though historically low) popularity are all partly if not wholly the fault of liberal smugness and left-wing political correctness run amok.

When the “War on Terror” was launched in 2001, corporate media—especially cable TV news—started a narrow parade of hawkish retired military and intelligence brass, who promoted war as the response to the crime of 9/11, identified which foreign enemies to attack and confidently predicted success. We can look back at this parade and laugh at […]

President Donald Trump is threatening to escalate the Syrian war–and major liberal media outlets are writing that Trump should attack Syria further.

The very possibility of US withdrawal from Syria rendered apoplectic journalists who are convinced of the legitimacy of Washington’s domination of the country—international law be damned.

For the New York Times, the US is always lagging behind the Russian menace. Previously, the Times has told us how America was losing the “scramble for the Arctic” and falling behind in election-meddling. Now it’s in the realms of cyber and nuclear war that the Times sees dangerous gaps.

Just as they did in the lead-up to the Iraq invasion, MSNBC and CNN now serve up a steady parade of war-hawks, spies and liars, presenting them as credible and almost heroic as long as they criticize the despicable man in the White House.

How did a tax cut that mainly benefits a small group of top earners become broadly popular? One reason is the nonstop deluge of stories over the past two months, cheerleading alleged “tax cut bonuses” from large corporations.

The response from top newspapers to Donald Trump’s State of the Union address illustrate how the lies and false narratives perpetuated by Trump and his administration continue to be normalized.

“If we want to build infrastructure that addresses public needs, then I would argue that you would actually need public input to see what those needs are before you start building that infrastructure.”

It should now surprise no one that Trump’s infrastructure plans—promoted in his State of the Union—have more to do with private riches than with public works.

“Guantánamo is just an extension of what’s been happening in the criminal justice system in the United States forever in terms of targeting people of color, in terms of torture, in terms of secrecy.”

Commercial media is, of course, a system for serving corporate advertisers the audience they want. And wealth and influence aren’t so much condiments as the main ingredient.

“When our elected and appointed officials, and those who aspire to be elected and appointed officials, poison the nation’s political debate…that indeed spurs violence against our communities.”

Michael Wolff’s book reads like the inverse of much of the daily coverage of this White House by the corporate media—for both good and ill.

If we think that Trump is responsible for the rise in world oil prices, then he can reasonably be given credit for the uptick in investment that has occurred during his administration; otherwise, there is not much for him to boast about.

The New York Times has some 100 percent uncut pro-US ideology to push under the guise of criticizing Trump, and no amount of basic historical facts will get in its way.

FAIR is the national progressive media watchdog group, challenging corporate media bias, spin and misinformation. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. We expose neglected news stories and defend working journalists when they are muzzled. As a progressive group, we believe that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information.
