A letter in the new issue of Time magazine offers an alternate suggestion for Person of the Year (the magazine chose Facebook‘s Mark Zuckerberg):

A letter in the new issue of Time magazine offers an alternate suggestion for Person of the Year (the magazine chose Facebook‘s Mark Zuckerberg):

Peter Hart was the activist director of FAIR for 15 years, as well as the co-host of FAIR's radio show CounterSpin. He is now the senior field communications officer for Food & Water Watch.

FAIR is the national progressive media watchdog group, challenging corporate media bias, spin and misinformation. We work to invigorate the First Amendment by advocating for greater diversity in the press and by scrutinizing media practices that marginalize public interest, minority and dissenting viewpoints. We expose neglected news stories and defend working journalists when they are muzzled. As a progressive group, we believe that structural reform is ultimately needed to break up the dominant media conglomerates, establish independent public broadcasting and promote strong non-profit sources of information.

That is sweet, although merit and morality of course aren’t criteria for Time’s Person of the Year.
People still read Time? That magazine lost credibility decades ago.
Noam Chomsky rocks! The person who suggested Noam should be person of the year is brilliant.
For decades, Dr. Chomsky has been providing the sort of factual analysis that progressives need.
We live in a society now that openly rewards cheating, stealing and most any unethical behavior in the pursuit of profit, success and celebrity. Bill Gates was perhaps one of the first to be so openly worshiped.
This is what is now the meaning of contemporary entrepreneurship. We have no time for the intellectual clarity that is offered by critical thinkers such as Chomsky, Vidal, Nader and a too few others who are leftover from the 60’s. In our topsy-turvey politic, intellectual clarity is a threat to corporatism and cannot therefore be tolerated in the corporate run media. Hence the un-credible choices that Time has made in recent years for those they choose to honor as person of the year.
