Fox News Channel continues to mislead viewers aboutthe “Ground Zero Mosque.”On the August 18 broadcast of the O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly countered the argument that there would be no controversy over a Jewish or Christian house of worship by saying this:
Nobody would be complaining because Christians and Jews weren’t involved in the 9/11 attack. Radical Muslims were. And you may remember the Muslim world largely did not condemn the al Qaeda action, while most Christians and Jews did.
Some opponents of the Park51 development like to argue that they have no problem with Islam per se. O’Reilly seems to go the other direction; sincewe “may remember” that Muslims were silent after 9/11,there’s something troubling about “the Muslim world.”

And this is an old O’Reilly line, anyway; as I wrote in my book The Oh Really? Factor:

There were no mass demonstrations against terrorism, no peace vigils and no organized condemnation of the al-Qaida criminals. OH REALLY: There was a candlelight vigil in Iran shortly after the attacks, attended by “more than 3,000 mostly young people” (New York Times, 9/21/01). A few days earlier (9/15/01), the Times reported that “thousands of people attending a World Cup qualifying match between Bahrain and Iran observed a moment of silence.” Palestinians gathered for a candlelight vigil in Jerusalem (Baltimore Sun, 9/15/01) As NPR reported, “Most Arab leaders were quick to denounce the attacks. Jordan’s King Hussein, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri sent their condolences. Officials in Syria, Kuwait and other Gulf nations expressed sympathy for the American people and the families of the victims. Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi said his country was ready to send aid to the United States.” (9/12/01)
There is still no real evidence that Muslims had anything at all to do with 9-11. There is very much evidence that our own NORAD and other elements of the Department of Defense did have a part in both the aircraft crashes and the professional demolitions of the World Trade Center as well.
None of the 9-11 terrorists were from Iraq or Afghanistan. The vast majority of them were from Saudi Arabia. The rest were from Yemen. Osama ben Ladan is a Saudi Arabian!
So what the hell are we doing in Iraq and Afghanistan! Think about it folks!

O’Reilly makes a fine living off his so-certain, so-cavalier handling of “facts.” Yes, facts are sometimes hard to establish, but you’d not guess that watching BillO or Sean or Glen, or listening to the hoard to those, like Limbaugh, who profit from confusion, fear, disinformation, and downright lying.

With regards to the islamic issue and 911. I am the niece of a New York city detective. I was born there and now my uncle is deceased. I am presently residing and going to school in Canada. If one wants to find the origin of an act, one should find out who profits from it. Moslems certainly did not profit from The 9/11 tragedy; in fact, it was the worst thing that could have happened to them. Whereas they were well on their way to being accepted as main street, since that day millions of their brethren have been killed and continue to be killed in our wars against Iraq and Afghanistan and elements in the country are right now hyping and beating the war drums against Iran, another Moslem country, the same as they did in the runup to the invasion of Iraq. Hate crimes against Moslems have increased and continue to this day. They are maligned and humiliated and collectively punished. Thousands of innocent Moslems have been deported and separated from their families, or worse. And talking about people rejoicing when this tragedy occurred, there was a hushed up and little publicized incident of a group of people (not American) who were on a rooftop watching the destruction as it was occurring; they were jumping up and down with glee and rejoicing. They were arrested, but let go a couple of days later and sent back to their country. They were NOT Moslem. No one ever investigated this incident and we never heard about it again.

Also, blaming Obama for the mess we are in is so twenty minutes ago. The only reason Obama is unable to end the wars is that he is, unfortunately, looking to his re-election, just like every president. Christians and Jews, Hindus, B’Hai, Buddhists, all have extremists and extremist supporters. Eric Robert Rudolph was a Christian who bombed abortion clinics, gay bars and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and then fled the nationwide manhunt for years with the help of his Christian supporters. In recent times, we have seen a souring of relations between Muslims and non-Muslims in America. The anxieties created by the war and the misinformation spread by vested interests have created an environment of mistrust and islamophobia.
Often these anxieties and mistrust have taken the form of ‘not in my backyard’ phenomenon when Muslims have sought to build or expand their mosque facilities. Here in Atlanta, two of our local mosques have faced opposition to their expansion plans.
The proposed mosque close to Ground Zero has resulted in more misinformation spread about the Muslims in America.

Also, this year September 11 falls on or close to Eid. Given the environment of mistrust and breakdown of community relations, it is up to us as Muslims to take a stand and make sure that this Eid turns our country away from mistrust and sensationalist political punditry. Its time for us to make a concerted effort to let our country know that we are a important and loyal part of the social fabric that makes up America.
We are urging Muslims nationwide to hold a candlelight vigil for 9/11 victims on Saturday, September 11 between 7 and 7.30pm (before Maghrib prayers) outside of their local area mosques. This is not the time to be complacent. This is a time for action and for letting our neighbors and our country know that we are with our fellow Americans in their observance of the 9/11 tragedy.
